Uninteresting news for the disinterested masses

Current feline hostages: 4 + 1.33 (Pixel, Corey, Lunch, and Snack Pack all count as actual pets; the semi-feral Captain Sparklepants is large enough to almost count as one but isn't indoors often enough to be a full member of the family, and Bagheera is too small to be counted and isn't really ours anyway, as he's going to Lilly and Shoghi's as soon as they move.)

Current human hostages: 1 (Mike still considers himself king of the castle but you and I all know better who rules the roost here.)

I've run out of new TV shows to watch and am instead watching old reruns of The Pretender and Sliders on Hulu. I'm almost looking forward to having schoolwork next month so I don't have to sit around and do nothing...

Which I'm not really doing, as I'm knitting up a storm as per usual. Magic Mirror Socks are 50% done, but the second one is not even cast on. I have a hat on the needles for Mike's nephew, but it's not working out the way I want it to. I have stalled on my purple sweater again...

Biggest knitting project: I've restarted my aunt Orit's knitted wedding gown. I've completed the first edging panel (2nd-largest bit of the dress) and the first, longest insertion strip. Still remaining are the second insertion strip, the bodice which builds off of it, the skirt (the biggest bit, which I can't do until I finish the bodice so I can see how long it needs to be to reach the edging panel at the correct place), and both sleeves. My biggest issues with my original version of this dress were twofold: I didn't know what I was doing knitting-wise, which resulted in uneven tension, mistakes, and ugly twisted stitches; and the yarn was from over 20 small balls, many of which were from different lots and therefore didn't quite match, even though they were all supposedly white. This time, I actually know a lot more about knitting and can read my work better and therefore it looks much better, and I'm working from four enormous cones of yarn, all from the same lot and therefore all the same color!

School starts on 8/31, although I don't have any classes that day. My work schedule for the next three weeks is Sundays 2p-12a, Wednesdays 2p-12a, Thursdays 3p-1a, Fridays 3p-8p (with the exception of this week, where it's 3p-1a again) and Saturdays 3p-1a.

I'm hoping to go to Disneyland with some friends from the RVT program next Tuesday. Beyond that, I have no real plans.

Went to the doctor today and saw myself from his POV as a classic example of a drug-seeker. Truth is I don't WANT to take this much Vicodin, but since my health insurance won't allow me to see a specialist about my hip/leg again until after a 6-month period for pre-existing condition coverage to kick in, there's nothing I can do EXCEPT take pain meds. In the meantime, just call me House.
