I haven't posted in a bit so I thought I'd share this clip for shits & gigs.
So every year in NYC there's a theater fundraiser called Miscast, where Broadway performers perform songs they usually don't get to sing. For instance... a guy can ham up an Elle Woods song, a girl can sing one of Tony's songs from West Side Story (as Sutton Foster did this year with Maria) and a black woman can sing If I Were A Rich Man from Fiddler on the Roof.
This is a great bootleg clip from last year's Miscast, in which Norbert Leo Butz and Aaron Tveit take on Wicked's "What Is This Feeling". It's normally a girl duet, a song that Elphaba and Glinda sing to/about each other. Norbert was the Original Fiyero, and Aaron was the At-The-Time Current Fiyero, so they're both well familiar with it, and to boot they're both appearing in the same show (they allude to this in the clip), so they've got a great relationship.
To be honest, the part I laughed the hardest at that made me really want to share this -- and it's not even actually funny -- was 1:12-1:17, where Norbert uses his free hand to sketch out the "shape" of the melody. I laughed so hard because I *recognized* it instantly -- I can't tell you HOW many times I have done that trying to teach someone the tune of a new song. Especially when they don't quite get it right away. I wonder if this is one of those instincts found in all humans? Like scratching your balls?
Anyway, here ya go. :-)
