I'm currently house/dog sitting for one of my dad's students out in Hortonville-I've been here since yesterday afternoon and I'll be here until Saturday morning. It's kind of sad being away from the apartment, but it's not too bad. Anyway, I'm currently cooking a frozen pizza for dinner, and I figured the cook time would be a good time to present an update.
I don't think I ever really talked about moving into the apartment. Kristena and I have been there for a week and a half now, and things are (mostly) unpacked at this point. I seem to be the culprit in the unpacked category, mostly because I've been working full days and I don't feel like doing work when I get home. :P
My room is sweet, and huge (heh, compared to living in that Kohler single last year, everything seems huge.) At first I thought I'd have to put a dresser in the closet, but it turns out it all fits just fine in the main room. And having my own bathroom is sweet. Even though my black towels shed like crazy . . .
The only downside is the train. The tracks are about 20 feet or so away from our window, and there's an intersection right next to our building. Which means the train is honking its horn every time it goes by. And it's loud. And it's not on a set schedule, so we never know when it's going to go by. I can't leave my windows open at night because the horn would scare the crap out of me (and wake me up.)
But the rest of the apartment is really nice. If you're ever in the Appleton area, you'll have to come see it.
Work is good. I finally feel like I'm getting the hang of things and actually having things to do. With us being so short-staffed at the moment, and Jenny leaving soon, there's a lot of little extra things to do, which is fine with me. I also spend yesterday and today at these informational sessions that Admissions put together-pretty much we went around to every single department and had the chair tell us about what their department is doing and so on, so we'll be more informed to pass those cool things on to alumni. There were some cool things, but it felt like I was back in school (too soon!), so it was kind of a strange feeling. And two whole days of sitting and listening is really not that fun.
I'm also really really pissed off at the loan people, whoever they are and however you classify them. It's a long story that basically boils down to the fact that they consolidated my loans into one loan after I specifically canceled that request. The problem with that is that I lose the benefits of not paying interest if I defer again (which I will when I go to grad school). Oh, and they don't tell you this, but if you consolidate a loan while on a grace period (which I am, since I just graduated), then you lose your grace period. So now I have consolidated loans that I don't want, and a payment due on September 28 (when it wasn't supposed to be until December.) Seriously, what the hell?! Not cool people, not cool. Screwing up when it comes to other people's money is a serious problem. I finally got through to them today (after a week and a half) and from what I gather from the atrociously accented woman I talked to is that they can put in a 'research inquiry' to look into it, but unconsolidating a loan is quite complicated and doesn't usually happen. Idiots.
So, any of you with loans take heed of that, especially the grace period part. They seriously don't tell you that until after you've consolidated, which is stupid. So keep that in mind.
Well, I probably have more to say, but I feel I've sufficiently bored you now. Besides, the pizza's done, and I've got Buffy:Season 2 to watch on the big screen TV here in the house. I'm at the part where Angel loses his soul and terrorizes Sunnydale. It's such good acting.
Okay, so I'm a nerd and hardly any of you will know that reference, but I'm excited about it just the same. :P
