ABC's of Travel

Nov 16, 2015 12:37

Saw this posted on another blog and wanted to post it somewhere; I guess here's as good as any!

A) Age you went on your first international trip:
I was 21; a senior in college

B) Best foreign beer/wine you’ve had and where:
Hmm, I really like Peroni, which is an Italian beer.  And I don't know that I could pick just one international wine (you know me!), but I'm a pretty big fan of Italian Moscato d'Asti and Argentinian Malbecs

C) Cuisine (favorite):
Italian

D) Destinations-favorite, least favorite, and why?:
Favorite: Florence, Italy.  I haven't tralved overseas much but this place was gorgeous and so much fun.  I wish I had more time there!  (U.S. Runner up: Seattle)
Least Favorite: Butte, Montanna.  I didn't spend much time there but it was depressing.

F) Favorite mode of transportation:
Train.  As much as I like driving, I like that we (usually) go faster than driving would, plus I can sit back and relax and read/watch a movie/whatever.  And it's usually less stressful than flying.

G) Greatest feeling while traveling:
This might be counter-intuitive to what I said above, but I love the feeling of taking off in an airplane for a new desitnation.  And landing in the new place, too.

I) Incredible service you’ve experienced and where?:
I haven't had that many outstanding experience, but I think the cruise my family went on when I was in high school was the best service-they had everything covered and made you feel so special!

J) Journey that took the longest:
The road trip from Appleton to Portland; took us 2 1/2 days (I think)

K) Keepsake from your travels:
I collect shot glasses from places I visit, and they're all on display in my kitchen.  My favorite keepsake is the cork from the bottle of wine Erik and I had in Florence when we had our multi-course Italian meal.  I still have it sitting on my dresser.  (I also like the memory because I ordered the entire meal in Italian.)

L) Let-down sight, where and why?:
Venice, Italy.  I expected it to be magical but it was just so touristy.

M) Moment where you fell in love with traveling:
Probably some point during the Europe trip.

N) Nicest hotel you’ve stayed in:
I got to stay in the W hotel in downtown Seattle for a work conference a few years ago.  It was super swanky.  (I'm pretty pumped I get to stay at the Ritz-Carlton in New Orleans in January for a work conference!)

O) Obsession-What are you obsessed with taking pictures of while traveling?:
In the past, it's probably been buildings/scenery.  But now it might be food, lol (thanks Instagram).

P) Passport stamps-how many and from where?:
Haha, one, from Amsterdam (do they stamp when you come back in the U.S.?  If they do, then 2, but I don't think they do).  The reason it's funny is because I reallllly wanted to get my passport stamped in Italy, and they didn't do it when I entered the country.  I was sad about that.

Q) Quirkiest attraction you’ve visited and where?:
Hmmmm, I honestly can't think of anything for this, though I'm sure I've seen some quirky things . . .

R) Really Frightening: where’s one place you’ve visited where you felt unsafe or uneasy?
Walking down an Italian highway at 2:00am.  (It's a long story . . .)

S) Splurge-something you have no problem spending money on while traveling:
Wine/alcohol, or food in general

T) Touristy thing you’ve done:
Oh I've done so many touristy things (isn't that the point of traveling?).  I probably did the most touristy things when we were in New York (Empire State building, 5th Avenue, river cruise, etc.)

U) Unforgettable travel memory:
I kind of already mentioned it, but the multi-course 'true' Italian meal Erik and I had in Florence.  It so was so delicious and so "anti-toursity" that I just loved it.

V) Visas-how many and for where?:
None, I've never had to have one

W) Wine-best glass while traveling:
I kinda already answered this, but it depends on where I am and if/what I'm eating.

X) eXcellent view and from where?:
Again, Florence.  We walked up this hill where an old church was (I don't remember the specifics), but from there you could see all of Florence (Ponte Vecchio, the Arno, etc.).  And it was right at sunset.

Y) Years spent traveling:
My first plane ride was when I was about 3, going to Detroit to visit my relatives for Thanksgiving.  So I guess I'd say 26 years!

Z) Zealous sports fans and where?:
Um, well I'm a pretty zealous Packers fan, but I don't think that's the question?  I don't think I've ever encountered (or been) a zealous sports fan while traveling . . .
