Lovesong

He loved her and she loved him.
His kisses sucked out her whole past and future or tried to
He had no other appetite
She bit him she gnawed him she sucked
She wanted him complete inside her

ahhh i love this hughes poem too!
i think this one & the one i posted in my own journal are my favorite poems of his.
we have been discussing him in my modern lit class lately, after talking about sylvia plath. many of my classmates seem to despise him for his history with plath -- he left her and she killed herself. but the way i see it, they both had their faults. she probably would have killed herself regardless of him being in her life...she had issues, and he did too.
i guess i just have trouble blaming him completely. i can't pin him as the bad guy. i think he really loved her. i think sometimes, people change.

"i think sometimes, people change."
that's so funny that you should say that...i just wrote that i don't think people ever do in my real journal, ha.

& i haven't read much by him yet, but i liked the one you posted so i went searching. i love this one to pieces.

i don't blame him entirely either, i think maybe he contributed but they both had their issues. did you see her son just killed himself?

yeah. we were discussing her poetry in class after it happened and it really kind of put everyone into a solemn mood.

and i don't know. i think i take that theory and run with it because it's the most logical to me...like it's the best way i can appreciate or understand the losses in my life. i'm not sure that makes sense or not; it sounded better in my head than it came out.

no, i know what you mean. just from what i've found, people don't change. maybe i just haven't met them yet.
