Happy World Book and Copyright Day!
It may be a convoluted name, but World Book and Copyright Day is actually pretty cool. Created by
UNESCO, it seeks to "explore the topic of the paramount function of books for the development of quality education, as well as the link between publishing and human rights."
This day also launches Beirut as Miss World Book Capital 2009, stealing the coveted title from Amsterdam.
If you're in Melbourne, the State Library of Victoria is holding
a free exhibition entitled "The Independent Type: Books and Writing in Victoria" to celebrate its new status as a UNESCO City of Literature.
