mark's in vegas for a slot tourney with his dad. it's so wierd/strange to have someone so close to me that's into sitting down activities vs. working your ass off activities. who am i to judge? someone who is always on her feet and probably shouldn't be i guess ( Read more... )

i know what you mean about talking to your family about your job - i feel the same way talking to relatives who don't seem to think government workers do very much (and the feeling i get that they're thinking my job must not be very hard if i can do it). i wonder what they'd think if they knew about the job i just applied for that has all that overtime - but they don't even know i'm applying for jobs because i hate talking to them about work so i avoid saying anything about it to them anymore. the only reason they know anything is going on there now is because it's big enough that it's been in the news.

what kind of work does/did your mom do? does she say anything directly about what she wanted you to do or is it just the feeling you get like it is for me? i don't understand what parents expect anyway.

my mom was a secretary at a church before i came along. i think she just wanted more for me, she never really said what exactly, just something more important. saving lives or something, i don't know. maybe she makes so many irrational comments about my work because she hates how retail ruins your social/family/work-life balance.
