No, wait a sec, I've decided to start this entry with this baby crow:

Guess what, I'm going to Kyoto, Japan in a couple weeks. The Evolang conference is being set there, and I'm going with a friend on my course - awesome. We've booked a room in a traditional Japanese-style hostel for cheap. I'll take lots of pictures.
edit: this is where we're staying... looks so Japanese doesn't it?
It's been busy - the uni I'm applying to for that PhD liked my first proposal draft, but the second draft took me a lot longer than it should have done. For such a long application process, I hope it ends up going somewhere, though I doubt it. I mean, I HAVE the place already, it's just an application for the money which is tough, but if I get it then I'll have no tuition fees and a non-taxable £15k 'salary' to live on. Just got to pray or something.
SO addicted to Words With Friends lately. If you play, my username is jackalesque, start a game with me. I love word games. It's how Al and I spend a lot of our evenings online now sadly.
