Kame had been dozing against the car window, only vaguely aware of his surroundings, when a flash of movement in the blue Okinawan seas caused him to jerk upright, now fully awake. Eyes glued to the spot, Kame watched and waited until his patience was rewarded as a humpback whale suddenly reared up in an explosion of sea spray, its titanic bulk forming a graceful arch for a breathtaking second before it plunged back in to the water.

He watched until its vast flukes had slipped out of sight, as peacefully as its entrance had been eventful, then turned and would have shouted an excited, "Look at that!" if he hadn't froze at the sight that greeted him.

"Hm?" Jin replied as he briefly took his attention off the road, giving him a curious look.

Kame paused, uncertain. He thought of empty seats and long silences, of single rooms and photographs with no one in them; but that was in the past. "D-did you see that?" he asked, pointing at the expanding circle of waves that were all that remained of the event.

"Yeah," was all Jin said, his gaze fond but not focused on the view outside, and Kame needed nothing more.
