It’s an idea Jin’s clung to since he returned from LA-“Look Kame, what happens when the Jimusho doesn’t want us anymore? I mean I’m already in their black books. I just want something secure, safe, something that the Jimusho can’t control or take away. And land is the safest thing I can think of” had been his explanation, delivered in that oddly grown up manner Jin has developed whilst surviving on his own for 6 months.

Kame wants to protest, argue that people don’t just buy land, but something makes him keep quiet, makes him simply agree with Jin and agree to help him find the perfect plot of land.

Jin has a detailed list of what he wants; ‘something relatively flat, good soil to grow plants and a swimming pool’ (the third of which he emphasises-he claims it’s so he can have somewhere to relax at the end of the day but Kame’s overheard his plans with Yamapi for skinny dipping and wet strip poker).

As it is Jin spends most of the time dismissing Kame’s suggestions, claiming he’s perfectly capable of finding his own piece of land (despite insisting that Kame help him out)

Koki who’s sprawled on the sofa opposite, hung over and exhausted, is alternating between picking out the most insane sounding pieces of land (“Look, this one comes complete with an entire Ostrich farm. I guess if you ever wanted to quit JE and look after birds, this would be the job for you. Ooh and this one comes with its own private rose garden. Jesus rich people must be bored”) and throwing balls of paper at a sleeping Junno’s head.

But Jin is focused on Koki, eyes narrowed as he calls Kame over to catch his newest discovery, Koki sliding up so Kame can lean over his shoulder.

He sits up straight as he Koki glances up to smile at Kame, smile wide and eyes slightly soft.

Kame, unaware of Jin’s dangerous glare, merely settles so that he’s squeezed next to Koki on the sofa.

“Hey Jin. Koki’s found a pretty good deal here. It’s new, with good land density and firm enough for you to build a house or add extensions. It’s cheap too.” He says distractedly, eyes focused on the magazine in front of him.

Jin takes a moment to admire how adorable Kame looks squashed up; glasses perched on the end of his nose and a frown of concentration furrowing his brows.

That is until he sees Koki place a hand over Kame’s to stop him turning the page.

“I can find my own land thank you very much. I certainly don’t need
your help Koki” he snaps, standing up, irritation snaking down his spine completely ignoring that it was Kame’s land suggestiong.

Kame looks up slowly, mouth tight and Jin has a brief moment of ‘oh fuck’ as he recognises the unhappy frown on Kame’s face.

“Jin. Koki is only helping out. You were the one sprawled out on the sofa moaning about how there were too many choices and whinging about us not helping you. The least you can do is appreciate his efforts” Kame says calmly but with the barest hint of a threat underlying his words.

Jin feels a flare of irrational anger as he catches Koki shake his head in slight disappointment over Kame’s shoulder and he’s shouting before he realises it.

“I just wanted to buy land. So you’d understand that I can be stable, that I can support you. So that we’d have somewhere to live ok? So that you know you can rely on me.”

Jin flushes in the silence that follows, vaguely aware that Koki is staring at him, mouth open in shock slightly and that Junno is shifting awake in confusion.

But all he can see is the way Kame is looking at him, eyes soft and dark, and the steadily building horror and embarrassment at what he’s just admitted in front of everyone.

He stumbles slightly and considers running away and spending the day hiding in a closet somewhere, perhaps blackmailing Pi into letting him stay in News’ dressing room for the day.
