Jin nods his head in acknowledgment and tells him to close the door, asks him where he's headed.
"Nowhere, really. I don't know. I was just trying to get out."
Jin realises then how much things weren't registering properly in his head. He focuses on the man's features and wonders how long it's been since he last saw a Japanese face that wasn't his own. At the same time, he's aware now that the man was talking to him in broken and heavily accented Dutch. Jin isn't sure about the etiquette for these situations, isn't sure about how much of himself he should reveal, but he finds himself slipping easily into Japanese and telling him, "I know all about that. I'm Jin."
The hitchhiker lets out a sigh, looking suddenly relieved, his lips curving up into a smile as he bows his head. "I'm Kame. I'm seriously glad to hear some Japanese after all this time."
Jin has to laugh because he knows the feeling too; whenever he feels homesick he can up the phone and call his parents or Yamapi or Ryo and it's like being back in Tokyo once more. He doesn't long to go back, but those small bits of home are like little reminders that he's got a place to go back to, that when he's done experiencing as much as he possibly can, he's got somewhere to finally settle down.
What he says though, is: "What are the odds, right? How long have you been in Belgium?"
"A little over six months," Kame says. He's rooting through his backpack, not looking at Jin. "It's been a bit of a bumpy ride."
Jin can imagine, if Kame has to resort to hitching rides on the roads of a foreign country. He's about to ask Kame whether he's planning to go back to Japan any time soon, when Kame looks up from his task and asks him instead, "How will I pay you back?"
Jin looks away from the road to stare at Kame for a moment. The thought hadn't even crossed his mind once; he has no idea how to answer that question, since all he knows about hitchhikers and the like are things he's seen in movies, and someone usually ends up on his knees on those. Jin wouldn't be averse to the idea under different circumstances, but right now it's not something he wishes to consider.
"Um. We'll think of something. Don't worry about that."

I totally wouldn't object to one of them ending up on their knees, though
