"You got the fingerprints ready?" Jin asks, swaggering up to Kame's lab bench, "It's Nishikido, right? Nishikido is the serial killer."
Kame doesn't even look up from the tray of tiny tubes that he's carefully pipetting a series of samples into. It's really annoying; how is Kame supposed to notice how good Jin looks in his new uniform if Kame doesn't even look?
"Jin--"
"Hey!" Jin protests, "what did I tell you about being professional--"
"Fine," Kame says, "Akanishi."
"That's Officer Akanishi to you," Jin says. "Now where are my fingerprint matches?"
"I'm a DNA tech, Officer Akanishi." This time Kame does look up, exasperated. "Ueda is the fingerprint guy and he probably has your analysis done by now, why don't you go bother him?" He snaps one of the tubes shut with an audible click, as if to punctuate his remark.
"I want you to do it."
"You know Ueda's been the lab fingerprinting guy for three years, right? He's very qualified for his position." Kame's stopped paying attention to Jin again and it's really annoying. Ever since Takki said Kame might have a shot at making CSI, Kame's been totally no fun anymore. Jin wants things to be the way they were once, back when they were both still trainees, back when he was still learning how to shoot a gun and Kame was still learning how to do that RCP thing with the DNA.
"I still want you to do it."
"I have two hundred of these samples to process and Aiba's out with the flu, so I have to run all of his samples too on the mass spec along with all my regular stuff and then maybe find time for lunch, and then later I have to go to the shooting range with Koki so I can actually not fail my gun certificatio--"
"I'll show you how to shoot a gun, I'm really good at it."
"Jin, I'm really busy. Go ask Ueda."
Kame's busy all the time now and something in Jin's stomach hurts. He's been trying not to think for months now what it's going to be like when Kame finally makes full CSI and realizes that being out in the field isn't really any big deal and Jin's nothing special, just another cop--
"Kaaaaaaaame," Jin whines, giving it one last try, "I don't want Ueda to do the fingerprints, I want you."
There's a long pause, then Kame sighs. "What's the case number?"
