I watched the movie Moteki today and it was fucking fabulous. Cannot even begin to tell you how much I thoroughly enjoyed it.
So the general synopsis that's out there is a little erroneous because they say the main character, Yukiyo, has reached another period of Moteki (aka the sudden boom in one's popularity with the opposite sex) and we say another because this is actually a year after the drama Moteki. Now, I can tell you now that you do NOT need to watch the drama in order to enjoy this movie. I've never seen the drama but I enjoyed this movie immensely. To the point that I will more than likely and by more than likely, I mean, I would be watching it now if I wasn't writing this up be picking up the drama because the main character is HYSTERICAL.
So the reason I say the summary is a little wrong is because they make it seem like Yukiyo has all these girls that are flocking towards him, when in fact, it's only two. Nagasawa Masami's Miyuki and Aso Kumiko's Rumiko. His co-worker, Maki Yoko, never shows any interest in him other than mild disdain and a desire to beat him up most of the time. And Naka Riisa's 5 minute cameo is--well--I'll talk about htat later. But regardless, from the very get-go, you can tell why he's not that popular at the moment. He's a bit of a loser, has nothing in his life that he wants (he starts the movie without a job) and has an opinion on everything. There is a lot of internal dialogue so if you usually dislike that, be warned. If not, the dialogue is aces. (Which carries on throughout the movie, in my opinion.) But with it, you definitely get a handle on Yukiyo.
P.S. This is him! The first is him in normal world. Second is the entire opening that has him being carried by ALL THOSE WOMEN.
And then the female "leads" (Mainly the first three. Naka Riisa does not count.)
Nagasawa Masami's character - Miyuki
Aso Kumiko's character - Rumiko
Maki Yoko's character - ...Yukiyo's coworker
Naka Riisa's character - Aoi
All 4 girls! :D
Normally, I am not fond of movies that are randomly cracky. Where stupid things happen for weird reason. This was something like that, but every time something bizarre happened, like--say--karaoke screens:
I would laugh out loud. Something about the atmosphere of the movie suited it more. (And this happens more than once, I must warn you.) Or there was a random dancing sequence which I will have to talk about once I get to those caps. Or when, I don't know, he breaks apart as a robot. It all makes sense in the scheme of things. And what I liked about all the music cues is that they were all very important. Not one of these songs were misplaced; they all had a purpose and you had to look at the lyrics to see it. (My subs had translations so yay to that!) There were at least 8-9 different songs played throughout this movie (maybe even more), but they all served a purpose. And it kind of reminds me of BANDAGE in that the music is very much linked to the movie and the characters and the situations they're in. Which is fascinating.
Also, speaking of the crackiness, the majority is in the first half of the movie when you're really just getting a feel for the characters (maybe for the first time like me), but as the movie goes on, as the situations become real, as feelings are revealed and the like, it becomes more humanized. There's no mocking or making fun of anything, and as Miyuki points out, they're growing up in this span of time. The movie also matures with them because it grows past the silliness and grows past making light of certain things. It humanizes out, I guess I could say.
Back to Yukiyo, at the start of the movie, he's so green about everything. He's rather pathetic about his job--just having got it. Obviously has very little on the motivation side. And has very very BAD luck with women. You also see that he is painfully obsessed with twitter (dude had over 35k tweets. I haven't even gotten there and I've had my twitter for idk how many damn years). And through it, he becomes friends with this one person whose name i believe was matsuo_m with this icon of a man, so ofc, he thinks it's a man. But somehow they decide to get drinks and who does it turn out to be? Masami's Miyuki!
Yukiyo checking out Miyuki.
I would love to past the whole internal dialogue in this scene because it was hysterical. One I distinctly remember is when Miyuki is removing her jacket, Yukiyo is thinking "No, wait! Don't take that off! It'll make me look!" I cannot even tell you how much I was fucking dying. What's interesting is that from the get-go, they establish that the two of them get along so easily. There's no lack of things in common, no boredom and they just click. It comes into play later when it comes into comparison between the relationship between Yukiyo and Rumiko which is much more strained because Yukiyo and her don't have that easiness. They don't click and they make it seem like the concessions that they would have to make to be together would be too much. Never mind the fact that Yukiyo was still in love with Miyuki at the time. >.>
But also interesting is that Yukiyo kind of picks up on the fact that Miyuki seems like a natural player. Like she just so easily could pick up guys and they would instantly fall in love with her. And you know what, it's true. Because just from that first meeting, he does. And it's hard for him not to when she has moves like the following:
This is the morning after they meet up. Miyuki ends up sleeping over at his place.
She ends up taking over his bed, borrowing his clothes and tells him she needs a glass of water. She drinks, then asks him if he wants some. He does, so she puts some in her mouth and transfers it MOUTH TO MOUTH. Then tugs him into bed with her. The boob grab is after that, where he's thinking to himself, OMG, IS THIS IT? I MEAN, IT SEEMS LIKE THE PERFECT TIME. So he grabs boob, basically asks her if they'll have sex and she kisses him--tells him that after they wake up, they'll go to Starbucks and go to work. lolol
(I HAVE NO WHERE TO PUT THIS SO HAVE AT IT.) AWESOME FLIP.
Yukiyo takes a picture on his cell, doesn't want to get caught so does that awesome flip over her head. THE HELL.
Anyway, after the morning and on his way to work, THERE IS THE MOST EPIC DANCE SEQUENCE EVER. It is very 500 Days of Summer reminiscent. But before that.
YUKIYO CHUCKS OFF HIS BAG. WATCH THE BAG. OLD LADY TRIPS OVER IT. XDDDD
The music is Perfume's Baby Cruising Love (which apparently he danced to in the drama too), but this PWNS that one.
Why?
PERFUME APPEARS.
YUKIYO AND PERFUME. A++++
I screamed when I saw this. Like it is epic. Like it is the whole entire song. Someone onliine had done a brief comment on this movie and said this scene was a little long. I THOUGHT, OMG WHO ARE YOU. YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO LIVE. PERFUME IS PERFECT. THIS SCENE WAS PERFECT. Yukiyo danced with Perfume and was COMPLETELY IN SYNC. which make me think, holy shit, this must've taken practice because TO BE IN SYNC WITH PERFUME YOU ARE A+++ MISTER. A++++
Anyway, I wanted to put the performance here but it's not online. SADFACE. (I would've capped more of it too if I'd known. XDDDD
Um. I've completely lost track of what I was saying. The movie is great. THERE ARE MAKE-OUT SCENES LIKE THE ONE BELOW.
GOD THIS KISS.
And other ones later. All I can say is that Masami should've made out with Yamapi like this in ProDai. It would've been fucking hot and A++. *__________*
Also important:
Introducing Naka Riisa and her boobs.
Naka Riisa had such a small role, but I adored her. She was a bar hostess that was trying to cheer Yukiyo up at one point, and the way she teases him was ace. Too bad it was only like a five-ten minute scene.
I lost track towards the middle about what i was saying--all the serious thoughts. (I think I had thoughts on Rumiko, but I'm too lazy to type them all up.) So we'll just leave it at this. THIS WAS AN AMAZING MOVIE. Hysterical and seriously worth the watch. It is not necessary to watch the drama. (But i probably will soon anyway.) And there are moments when Yukiyo deserves to be smacked, but you know what, I still kind of adore him. Yes. And Masami needs to make out with ppl like she did in this movie more. Meow.
P.S.
J!Actress Anon Meme is still going on! I've written way too many that are so obviously me. >.>
