That's the only explanation I can come up with for taking SO LONG to post. ~_~;; I've been meaning to since last weekend and oh hay, it's already Thursday.
i. The big thing that happened to me since last post? My dad's 55th birthday! ...No, not really. lol The real answer: I went skydiving last Friday!
I have to say, for all the freaking out I was doing two months or so before the date approached, I was surprisingly calm(er) than I expected. I mean, okay, on the way there, I was somewhat freaking out inwardly, but not to the point of queasiness like it had been. When we got there, somehow C and I convinced E (our friend who graciously offered to drive us around Long Island and to this location) to jump with us--thankfully getting sneakers from the people there since she'd been wearing boots. lol and then after signing off our LIVES (and possibly our souls) to this place, we headed outside to meet our tandem partners and get geared up.
I was the first to meet my partner, a man named Pat! This late-50s, early-60s (my guess anyway) man who had apparently jumped 14,800 times. I found out later that they jump from 10-15 times in a day. Anyway, he got me all geared up and made jokes about how small I was. "We'll just stay up in the air and never come down!" ~_~;; btw, the harness kind of feels like a diaper when you first put it on lol it's because there are bands that wrap around your legs and they push it up so that it's right at your groin. XD That said, it's really sturdy once you're all latched up.
E and C met up with their partners next, Erik and Dunkan respectively. They were both pretty cool, cracking jokes and just helping us relax before the BIG JUMP. About 15 minutes passed and they started to usher us into the plane. i was the first of the three to go in which meant I'd be one of the last ones to jump, lol. So in sitting, we straddled this bench and sat as close as SARDINES--because it was a full plane, you see. And so, the order went like this: Pat behind me, me, Dunkan, C, then some other random people in front of C. Then E and Erik were in the bench beside us. So, you know how the instructors have the packs with the parachutes? Well, they're SURPRISINGLY HUGE (okay not so surprising) and since we were packed together, I had to seriously open my legs (yes, dirty I know) to make sure we'd fit.
"God, it's big!" I say
"That's what all the girls say," Dunkan says.
C burst into laughter and I just snort.
10 minutes later, "I'm sorry, was that inappropriate?" Dunkan asks.
"Not at all," C says.
So the plane ride up took ten minutes. Granted we were going up to 12,000-13,000 feet, so I suppose it's understandable. XD Here's where I was strangely calmer than I expected. I just kept staring out at the window (I was right next to it) and kept commenting on what I saw. Long Island sure has a LOT of green, lol. And Pat would tell me about some of the surrounding area--Long Island Sound, Rhode Island, Massachusetts? I can barely remember. lol All I know is, my ears kept popping and "GOD, THIS RIDE IS TAKING FOREVER." C and E were sitting next to each other so they could talk easily but since I was behind both of them, it was a little tough to hear them.
Anyway, ten minutes later, we all started pounding each other in preparation for jumping. "See you down there!" "We can do this!" "YEAH!!!" and things like that. Then they started sliding forward. One by one, I watched as people fell out the empty doorway. E went first, then C. Last thing i heard C say was in response to Dunkan's "Are you ready?" "As ready as I'll ever beeeeeeeeeee------"
At that point, i started going, "Oh shit, holy shit. Oh god, shit shitshitshitshitshita;sldkfjalsdkf" (Yes, i keysmashed vocally. it's not possible but I'm sure that's what I was saying XD) "That's exactly how it should be," Pat says. I almost curse him out but that would involve something more than just thinking OHSTHISOHSTOHSHIT. So I get to the open door and he makes me half-kneel (only one knee was touching the ground--well, was TRYING to, Pat's fucking tall). And I can't remember if he asked me if I was ready or if he just went, ready! before we fall through that door into AIR.
GUYS, GUYS. The freefall is fucking insane. It's hard to even concentrate on the fact that you're falling because 1) you HAVE to move into a certain position to be comfortable when falling--tilt your head back, kick your feet up, 2) the air is rushing past you that it's almost really hard to breath unless you remind yourself, and 3) this is only for me--or those with glasses--but the googles I was wearing were SO TIGHT against my glasses that the lenses were practically touching my eyeballs.
I can't even tell you how long we were freefalling because it felt like just a few seconds! Less than a minute even before Pat warned me that he was about to open the parachute. Thank God he did, because you know that jolt you see when watching people skydive on TV? Is TOTALLY AS PAINFUL AS IT SEEMS. I had just enough time to move my hands to my harness and HOLD ON while the parachute was released. Guys, the freefall was NOTHING compared to when you're just hanging onto the parachute. I don't know why but somehow, THAT WAS FUCKING SCARIER THAN ANYTHING ELSE. And I said so to Pat who only laughed.
So after that, he adjusted my harness so it'd be more comfortable and, the best part? He pushed the straps by my legs forward so that I could be in a SITTING POSITION as we floated down. Freaking awesome. (I found out later that I was the only one, whoops. XD) So since I'd gotten a majority of the tour on the plane, Pat only pointed out a few other things I might've missed and we just spent the five minutes or however long we were in the air chatting. The swaying from side to side as he guides the parachute down was actually really freaky. I hate the feeling of weightlessness and when he'd take a sharp turn, i felt myself lift a little from the straps of the harness and FREAK OUT. lol I was the last one to land, and man that landing was sharp as well as I had to carry my own weight directly on my feet. And they warn you too that if you fall over, your partner will fall over and NOT GOOD. I managed just fine though. :D Almost stumbled, but it all worked out.
That all said, it was a REALLY scary once that parachute opens and it really hits you once you see people jumping out, but it's amazing. The feeling of just JUMPING OFF A PLANE hits you again and again as you go through life. Like, every now and then, I think to myself, "Holy shit, I JUMPED OUT OF A PLANE." And just the feeling that I faced one of my big fears--heights--and came out of it unscathed is AMAZING. I think it's the kind of thing everyone should do at least ONCE just to experience that feeling. it costs a bit--220 bucks in my case, but it is absolutely brilliant. *_____________________*
GUYS, I JUMPED FELL OUT OF A FUCKING PLANE FROM 13,000 FEET. HOLY FUCKING HELL.
ii. That aside, it was my dad's bday last Tuesday, the 12th. :D He turned 55~ So old. joking joking. lol We did our traditional dinner at my dad's favorite place (okay maybe not, I'm not entirely sure actually) Red Lobster. It was as good as always. *___________* Also, mom officially decided not to have the birthday party. lol I seriously feel like she's just too LAZY TO BOTHER. ~_~;; Instead, my mom said we'd just buy him whatever camera goods he wanted--my dad loves his cameras (well, that and any form of technology lol). He laughed a little and said, "you can't afford what I want." My mom asked what it was but he never answered. Just laughed. I still don't know what he wants, but man, wtf could it possibly be!
iii. I forgot I hadn't pimped this here yet so now I am. Everyone should read
Mark reads "Harry Potter." I linked to the archives page so that it's easier to navigate--or you could do what I did and go to the OLDEST POST EVER and just work your way backwards. lol Anyway, it's as it reads. Mark picks up the Harry Potter series and reads it for the first time and goes through it chapter-by-chapter. He apparently did this after reading Twilight chapter-by-chapter as well, and so there's a bit of residual anger (at least at the very beginning of the reviews). What I really love about these reviews is that even if it's been ages since you've read the Harry Potter books, it reminds you what you loved (and maybe even hated) about the series--the story, the characters, the adventures, the growth. And what's great is that it's really easy to tell that it's his first time reading the books so you can feel the wonder and the growing adoration as you read the reviews.
And the reviews aren't all static--he pulls in real life experiences, sometimes he even writes in the POV of the characters (like Hedwig) or it's an AIM chat of him and a friends spazzing as he reads a particular chapter. Plus, he pulls in quotes from the book which is awesome because it's like it's a refresher's course. And maybe just for me, but he totally points out things that I missed mainly because I was young when I started these books (the 3rd grade, thnx). Honestly, i can't rec this blog enough. Right now, he's going through Deathly Hollows hoping to finish before the movie comes out (which I think he will be) and so... I stalk the blog every day hoping for a new chapter, lol
iv. GLEE - Duets.
I absolutely ADORED this episode--the songs were all A+. The only weak one (disregarding the totally fake Finn/Rachel duet that only killed me with its inappropriateness) was probably the Tina/Mike one only because I couldn't figure out if I would really call that a duet. that said, I LOVED TINA/MIKE'S SONG BECAUSE LOL MIKE'S SINGING WAS JUST PAINFUL. Although it made me wonder wtf he does during performances then, mouth the words rather than sing them? lol Also, why he joined Glee club in the first place although maybe they were just joking. XD
Even though I thought Sam/Quinn's duet was "freaking charming" as Santana put it, Santana/Mercedes totally KILLED IT and if it hadn't been just Finn/Rachel's manipulating, they should've totally won. Although I laugh that Finn/Rachel thought (or Rachel thought) if they had done their best, they would've definitely won when it's obvious EVERYONE WOULD'VE VOTED FOR THEMSELVES. LOL Speaking of Rachel, I actually rather liked her in this episode! Her antics in the first two eps made me roll my eyes something silly but in this one, i didn't mind it too much. Her and Finn are actually ridiculously cute sometimes and I enjoy that they're actually trying to be a couple.
So yes, totally enjoyable episode and can't wait for next episode!!!! (Even though it's two weeks away. DDDD:)

I feel like I've ALREADY recced some really old dramas--Jyoou no Kyoushitsu, Great Teacher Onizuka, etc. So as to not recycle my answers, I'm reccing Tiger and Dragon. It's really not old--2005 after all which was only five years ago--but maybe I can fudge this to mean old-er Johnny boy? ... Okay, cheat, but what can I say? lol Tiger and Dragon though stars Okada from V6 and Nagase from TOKIO. If you haven't seen this, you're missing out. It's absolutely hysterical for a drama dedicated to rakugo, a traditional form of Japanese comedy. Nagase's a yakuza member who has to gather a debt from a rakugo master but ends up becoming his disciple while Okada is a former rakugo storyteller who only wants to leave that world behind. They both meet Ito Misaki and well, antics occur. :D They're an awesome pairing and honestly, if you don't fall a LITTLE in love with rakugo after this... idek. Totally watch if you haven't already!
