[#096] Whoa, Two Weeks

Aug 05, 2010 11:56

i. Been spending most of my time getting back into the swing of things, resisting from posting to serve as motivation for getting my Japan travelogue all nice and ready. the pictures are selected and are slowly being uploaded to my LJ photo gallery (WHICH I have to add I've been fixing up because they've been a ridiculous mess for years). So omg, the posts should be coming soon! :DDDD And no worries, there are lots of photos. Over 600 if I'm not mistaken for the past two weeks. (And that's me having narrowed the pictures down. lol) Expect multiple posts. :D

ii. Real Life stuff! ohmygod. So last week was Shakespeare in the Park. if you haven't heard, this year we had Al Pacino playing Shylock in Merchant of Venice which means that the tickets are practically impossible to get even if you wait on line the day of the performance at like 2AM. Yes, that's how hard it was to get them. On Wednesday morning, my friends and I had planned to wait in line starting at like 5 in the morning in hopes of getting tickets. ...Read the sentences before this one and just guess how that turned out.

We realized that the only way to get tickets was to WAIT OVER NIGHT. Were we crazy enough to do this? The answer: Yes we were. I had already been planning on staying overnight in the city for work reasons so I was able to do this without my mom worrying in any way. Of course I couldn't do this alone! I mean, little me waiting in Manhattan streets (sleeping a bit of the time ofc) by myself. Forget that. I was joined by Sh! So all of Wednesday was spent preparing for being able to spend the night on line right outside of Central Park. We bought a tent. It actually made me feel a lot safer. Well, that and the fact that there were a shitload of people waiting in line with us--in front of and behind. We were there from 8:30 PM until around 2 PM the next day. My god did I feel like a disgusting pig afterwards. Luckily I was able to go home after we got the tickets (the play didn't start until 8 PM) and TAKE A MUCH NEEDED SHOWER.

That all said and done, was it worth it? HELL YES. I'd never read Merchant of Venice before this so I really didn't know the plot at all (thank god for the synopsis on the playbill). Al Pacino was absolutely insane (well, matches his character) and all the acting was just brilliant. I laughed, I worried, I got so invested and just all these things. I didn't even nap a LITTLE through this (even though I was sleepy as all hell going into it). All together, worth spending the night on the streets of Manhattan--no matter how much stone is uncomfortable to lie on.

Not to mention, we totally made friends with the guys in front of us. To the point that not only did we end up getting a batch of tickets so we'd sit next to each other, but we got alcohol for each other to drink during the show. AND Sh and P ate dinner (at like midnight lol) with them after the show. Sadly, C and I had to get home because shit, it was midnight and we had work the next day. Sh and P also got their numbers. ...Which was also a big plus because man they were cute. :D

So yes, I can now check "slept on the streets of Manhattan" off my list. lol

iii. This is also personal and kind of delayed, but regardless. So there's this thing called the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation and they're hosting this thing next weekend at Yankee Stadium. This thing being a run/walk for cancer research. And I'm participating it. Of course, the thing that goes with these runs/walks are donations. Now, I hadn't been planning on posting this, but if I could get any donations from people, all the better.

My page is over here and if you're interested in donating for the cause, that would be fantastic. ♥♥

I've had two aunts with cancer (well, that are currently near me--I know my mom talks constantly about friends/family in the Philippines that have cancer) and a handful of family friends that also have cancer. Some have been able to fight against it, some were not as successful and I'm walking for them. (Okay, and a little bit because it's in Yankee Stadium and I haven't gone yet! XDDDDDD But there's only a twinge of that, I swear.) Anyway, thanks if you donate, and still thanks if you don't! I'm thankful for anything really~ Plus it's not required to get donations, i just thought it'd be nice. lol

iv. OKAY now something not as downing. If you follow me on twitter, you know that I've been obsessed with Game Dero. In rough terms, it's basically a show focused on "Escape the Room" scenarios. In other words, people are locked into a room and are made to solve puzzles in order to escape. The various rooms include a room that floods with water and to get out, the people (usually two) have to solve puzzles in order to open 3 briefcases 1 after the other to get to the remote that stops the water, and a room where a person has to get into quick sand and has to name 4 (I think?) people based on 6 clues that the announcer gives them, etc. The people that go on this show aren't nobodies, but celebrities in Japan--the members of K8 (so far Hina, Yoko, Subaru, and Maru have been on it) are semi-regulars it seems. As are members of AKB48. And ofc, there are comedians, other actors/actresses. There was a lawyer once. And yes. IT IS EXCITING and INTRIGUING and watching it makes you REALLY REALLY HOPE they can escape whatever scenario they're in. *____________* I totally recommend you guys watch it.

Places to get it: Whenever K8 members guests, Whenever AKB48 members guests, and just in general (currently has only the most recent 2 shows.

SERIOUSLY, WATCH THIS. It'll become your next new obsession, trust me. *____________*

v. And ofc, I had to have 5 points in total! :D (some things never change) This one's dedicated to talk about music and how OMG, I'M IN LOVE WITH ARASHI'S NEW ALBUM. *_____________* It is absolutely fantastic and I love hearing all the new songs. Right now, I'm particularly fond of Gift, Circus, Sora Takaku, Ohno's solo, and Nino's solo. But I've only started listening to it today so who knows, maybe other tracks will jump out at me. Btw, Matsujun's solo totally makes me LOL whenever I listen to it. XDDDDDD

P.S. oh! It's been so long since I've posted that I didn't see the new way to select tags till now. it reminds me a lot like semagic (which is my usual posting method when I'm home).
P.P.S. both my parents are going away to California starting the 11th and i've been putting my driver's license to work. T.T i hate driving. D:
