I am now a St. Louis resident.
kinda sorta. I'm not totally feelin' it yet.
Landon and I packed up the truck on Saturday and drove me down to my new town. We explored the city a bit over the weekend, but come Sunday night he had to leave and that was hard. I feel rather uprooted and weird without him around- I had really gotten used to 2 years of seeing his face almost every day.
Until August, I am living in a little brick house that's divided into a duplex. I am blessed with wood floors, lots 'o' furnishings that I didn't have to pay for, AC (yum), a fireplace, and a GARDEN. That's right. Rick the landlord lives upstairs and maintains a small adorable garden in the back yard. I am sharing this place with another grad student.
It's weird to be here, to be going through the uprooting to a whole new locale thing again. I miss you all... it's friends that make a place a home. It's not home here yet. It will be soon, I think. A little more every day. Today I walked to the grocery store... it took half an hour but it was a pretty walk so I didn't mind. I could foresee this pedestrian thing being a problem, though. I need some wheels- of the bicycle variety, I think.
I met with the dude who's lab I'll be working in today, and the grad student who will be helping me along a bit. They're all really cool and un-stuffy and approachable. So that's good.
I think I'll post pictures soon of my new abode and of random other things.
