I love Ottawa

From the Ottawa LJ community, I am gathering that people in Ottawa like to complain that Ottawa, as the nation's capital, should be bustling with creativity but is instead a very boring little town, instead of, you know, going out and actually making it a city bustling with creativity. I personally think Ottawa has no shortage of creativity.

It's in the communication and advertisement department that Ottawa lacks.

There is certainly no shortage of activities. I have trouble thinking of a "dead" time in Ottawa. There are so many fairs, crafts shows, festivals, street entertainers, walks, etc. Off the top of my head:

The animation festival just ended.

The Zombie Walk is coming up soon. In fact there are a gazillion Halloween activities coming up soon, whether you want to do crafts with your kids, visit a haunted site, or go clubbing in costume. And with Christmas...?

Spins and Needles is on every other week, at various locations.

The National Art Gallery frequently hosts events or offers workshops, and there are dozens of art galleries scattered throughout the city - in fact it's hard to walk around the Byward Market without tripping over a gallery.

The Fringe Festival is on every summer. The Buskers Festival is on every summer. The Greek Festival. Blues Fest. Opera Under the Stars. Art in the Park. And so on.

Not to mention fairs and crafts shows. There's that antique car show in the market. An antique fair just toured all major malls in the city. The Christmas craft show. The Spring craft show. The Ladyfest craft show. Hell, Rob and I went to a punk yard sale at Arts Court - which is also a pivotal spot for creative events in the city!

I could go on.

You just have to be a little more proactive in finding these activites. I am, surprisingly enough, not seeing many of them advertised on the Ottawa LJ community...
