Surprise!Constituents!Timestamp!

Okay, I'm actually writing a real sequel to my Big Bang. But, it's not coming anytime soon.

So uh, here's a timestamp! This is a "Captain Fine" timestamp...and by Captain Fine, I mean Chris Pine. He's really pretty. He will actually be in my BB sequel but here's some backstory to where he fits in the verse.

This takes place in the middle of the story. Obviously, big spoilers for my Big Bang. Jared POV, 700ish words.

Jared meets Chris Pine six months after the "Jensen Disaster".

He'd actually met Chris way before then. They're both pretty high up in the party, Chris working his way through the DCCC and Jared working for one of the highest ranking Dems in the Senate. And they're both out, meaning they're typically at the same events month after month, kissing up to the same elite in the gay community and begging for money. So they've met before, shaken hands and talked about where the party should be going and how to change the party line on gay rights, but they've never really talked anything but shop talk.

He really talks to Chris for the first time at some fundraising dinner six months after Jensen leaves D.C. Jared's still pissed about everything, still feels guilty whenever he ends up in a meeting with Joanna Krupa and hasn't thought about actually dating in ages.

How can he? Jensen fucked him up, made him cross lines he swore he never would. Helped Jensen cheat on his girlfriend, snuck around and pretending they were just friends. Jared swore he'd never be that guy.

Chris...he's not Jensen. He's got the same kind of smile. It makes him look younger even though his eyes crinkle at the corners but Chris smiles more than Jensen ever did. Chris is unashamed of himself, doesn't care who knows he's gay and most important, the guy is just nice. There's no arguing, no fighting, and even if he's not as funny as Jensen, well that's okay too.

"I am so glad you showed up to this thing," Chris says, bumping Jared's arm. He grins widely at Jared, and glances around the room before leaning up on his tip toes. "We should totally ditch this dinner and go get a drink," Chris whispers in his ear.

It's tempting. Jared hasn't felt...well he hasn't felt anything but anger for the last six months and here Chris is, smiling like he doesn't have a care in the world.

Jared used to be like that. It wasn't even that long ago.

"Well, where do you suggest we go for a drink?" Jared finally says.

Chris is still grinning. He ends up suggesting a bar that is actually Jared's favorite place to drink and they sneak out of the dinner after dessert.

"See, this is way more fun," Chris says when they're tucked away in a booth, both of them with beers.

The thing is? Jared is actually having fun. There's no pressure, just getting a beer with a hot guy who Jared really wants to go home with. "Yeah, it is."

He doesn't really know what Jensen's doing now. He heard through the grapevine that he's working for some law firm in Dallas, that he's out of the business for good. With Chris sitting next to him in this booth though, Jared can't feel anything but disappointed with Jensen. It's shitty, what happened, but now he's ready to move on. Jensen didn't care enough about anything to stay and fight to keep it.

He didn't care enough about Jared to stay and fight.

Everything is so easy with Chris. Years later, Jared realizes it's exactly like the relationship he had with his first boyfriend. There's no drama, just fucking around after work and ditching parties to hook up back at Jared's place before Chad gets back. It's not a surprise when Chris sits up in bed one morning, hands wrapped around his coffee cup and says, "This is fun, but..."

Jared's not upset and that pisses him off more than anything. He was a mess for weeks after Jensen. Fuck, he's still a mess over that closeted fucker. Chris was fun but he wasn't Jensen. And that just makes him angrier; he's not over Jensen yet.

He meets Governor Chandler at a fundraiser for up and coming Blue Dog Democrats, an event that usually makes Jared gag and resist rolling his eyes. It's the usual night of boring speeches and not enough booze, and Jared's half asleep when the Governor steps up to give his speech.

It's good. There's none of the usual bullshit that comes with his type of politician, just an honest speech and some actual funny lines. Jared hasn't heard this kind of speech writing in awhile, hasn't seen a guy like this in forever. He spends the next three days locked in his apartment with Chad and before he knows it, they're on a plane to Denver with polling numbers and a "not-a-shot-in-hell-but-lets-do-it-anyway" campaign plan.

It's everything he wanted since he was a kid, canvassing with his momma for their local councilman. They don't have much of a shot at the nomination, a minuscule chance at a VP nod but he has to do this. It's the best way to get over Jensen, doing what he loves and maybe getting a good guy elected President.

Then Jensen, the fucker, shows up at their headquarters in Denver, looking a little older and a lot more hopeful and Jared's carefully laid plans completely blow up in his face.
