Just hear those sleigh bells ringing...

I love this time of year, because it's Christmas Dessert Trial baking time. Every year my mom makes an absolutely insane cookie tray (view evidence), and while we always have the basics like biscotti, rugalach and chocolate sambuca crunches, we like to switch up some recipes every year. Today I made a batch of chocolate chili pepper cookies, and a few rose-oil cupcakes. As soon as they come out the oven, in go the batch of espresso brownies. They'll be tested on the family tonight, and the winner will gain a spot on the famous Masanotti cookie tray. Tomorrow my mom is tackling cream cheese truffles and limoncello cookies.

Last year was the first year Mell, my dad and I didn't make our gingerbread houses. And let me tell you our gingerbread houses are something else. It's this stupid tradition we've had since I did it with my teacher in the second grade, and loved it. Every year my sister, my dad and I sit at the table and tear our hair out in frustration, each one making a gingerbread house from scratch. We use simple graham crackers as the base, icing sugar and water as the glue, then decorate the fuck out of them with jujubes, peppermint gelees, absolutely everything. They turn out gorgeous each and every year, I'll take pictures this time. I'm going shopping at the Sweet Factory on Monday to get together all the supplies...and trust me, these house are harder to make than they sound. When icing sugar and water is your glue, the two graham crackers simply just won't stay together, and your wall will cave in. And, as a result, your roof will collapse.

Oh the Christmas fun!

I have an exam tomorrow..but psha. It's my English exit exam, to see if I am competent and capable enough in the english language to go to university. I'm sorry, but after four advanced college english courses, all of which were completed with a mark above 95...yeah, I'm not too worried.
