So this morning I lit a tealight candle and put it on the mantlepiece. Adam was in the room on the computer. I went downstairs to get a bowl of cereal. Came back in, mantlepeice was in flames. A painting of mine had fallen onto the candle. Big flames. Me = horror. So it got put out fairly rapidly and filled the room with smoke. Nice burn marks on the wooden shelf and painting ruined :( but, house still standing. :)
Don't burn your house down. Usually I make sure the pictures (unframed) are propped up by something. Alas, not today.
Went out last night with other people for the first time since we moved here. Apart from my work christmas party. This was someone from adams work having a leaving do so we all went to the pub and then to oakham for a curry. It was fun. We spent too much money but I had forgotten what it is like to go out with people, semi friends as opposed to workmates. Not that my workmates aren't friends too. But we don't often socialise.
Work is getting busy. One new person this week, 2 next week. So Maria and I have to get all the orders done and organised whilst training 3 new people. As well as me doing all the redistribution that is my job and maria doing all the other stuff that is her job. She's my supervisor, but I am her second in command sort of thing. She's in charge of the order shed and I am in charge of the redist bit. We work together, it works well normally. But it will be interesting next week because as well as new people I have laods and loads of lorries delivering stuff from france, holland and other places. I will need to be in 3 places at once. Joy.
And this year I am starting doing watering too. Taken over from claire who left at christmas. Also going on the weekend watering rota. I like watering, specially in the summer. It's peaceful. But again, do I concentrate on the orders without which there would be no business, or do I go and water the plants so that they don't die so that we can sell them.
I like my job. I wish agricultural wages were a bit higher though. Doesn't everybody wish that about their job.
One of the new girls has an archaeology degree. I like her, she's timid as a mouse but nice. The other new one has 2-tone hair, like someone dropped a bucket of bleach on her head. Either dye your hair, or don't dye it, girl. Not half a job. Not a fashion I like. The other lady smokes and appears to have pleurisy. Why start a physically demanding new job when you are on painkillers all the time?? She talks a lot, but seems nice. She knows another lady who is a seasonal worker who comes back in 2 weeks. We will have to make sure we don't let them work together or nothing will get done.
Last year, when I was new, there was an 18 year old lad who was a bit surly but mostly ok, and did work alright. Until a mate of his was also hired and then they both were totally useless. The mate, not much of a brain and quite sleazy, he got fired first for disregarding all the rules and being....well, there are no words. And neither of them cared. I was glad when they both had gone.
Eyebrow update = manky.
