It's 1994. Green Day is on the radio. Here in the USA, the year's top film is Forrest Gump. New terms coined include: bootylicious, cyberterrorism, digital divide, dot-com, metrosexual, MP3, neurotypical, terms of service, upcycle, and webcam.

For the year 1994, I read four Professionals fics and one Sherlock Holmes fic. Once more, there are no Man from U.N.C.L.E. fics. Don't worry, though, I've already started reading one for 1995.

The Professionals fic Bounty by Jane (of Australia), which can be found in Proslib, is the sequel to 1993's Nothing Left to Lose. It follows the same alternate Bodie and Doyle as they go about their lives in a world recovering from a comet impact. I didn't enjoy this story as much as the first in the series. It had a more meandering plot and not as much world building. I still found it worth reading, though. ~31,000 words. Bodie/Doyle slash.

Baiting the Trap by DVS is a Professionals fic that imagines what use Cowley might make of the Lads' relationship. I wish there had been more of it. I think a longer story with this set-up could be interesting. What there is of it is clever, though. 2,758 words. Bodie/Doyle slash. Particularly recommended.

Love is Wealth is a relationship-driven Professionals fic by Gloria Lancaster. I didn't have strong feelings either way about this fic. It had some interesting threads, but the plot felt a bit disjointed overall. 13,387 words. Bodie/Doyle slash.

In the Professionals fic Survival by Melanie Athene, Bodie and Doyle become stranded on a desert island. This was a fun story with some good action. It did a good job creating suspense about the Lads' plight and included some interesting details about their efforts to survive. 10,916 words. Bodie/Doyle slash.

I also read Brighton Memoirs by gardenerhill, a Sherlock Holmes fic. This is an epistolary fic consisting mostly of letters exchanged between Holmes and Watson while the latter is staying in Brighton. I enjoyed the character voices here, as well as the content, which spanned a range of emotions. This fic was my favorite for the year. 5,530 words. Holmes/Watson slash. Particularly recommended.
Comments with spoilers:
[Spoiler (click to open)]I particularly enjoyed their oblique discussions of their relationship, which were both poignant and very funny. Mrs. Hudson's offhand reference to it in the end was also a nice touch.

These write-ups have been a little short. I'm currently helping my mother move and am too tired out for more.
