RULE: Know ... When to Turn Shatner Off

I'm reading Shatner Rules. It's a light and entertaining read. I'm almost done. No ape (Koko) or bicycle (Nimoy) stories yet. That's the good news.

However, Chapter 13 (RULE: Know When to Turn Shatner On, and When to Turn Shatner Off) turned ME off a little.

Yes, it's about Germany. And the late Charlton Heston.

I totally agree that Heston was a square-jawed moron and a gun-loving fanatic (my choice of words). Unfortunately, Shatner met Heston in Germany for the first time. While having dinner at a German restaurant, Shatner got paralyzed by Heston's infamous "Bilble acting." Poor Bill. Now he will forever associate Germany with Charlton Heston.

Maybe that is why he finds Germany "unsexy" and "unsettling". Okay, but what makes a country sexy? Its women, its landscape, its culture? Of course we have a heavy burden called national heritage, and "the little Jewish kid" inside of him doesn't like Germany. Fully understood. But as a grown-up who's not that much into religion anyway and who has been to Germany several times, he might have noticed that there aren't that many Nazis around any longer and that there's more to Germany than Hitler, the Autobahn or Bockwurst (if that is what he meant by knockwurst). By the way, there's A LOT of Star Trek and Shatner fans here, I'd be careful stereotyping them as barbarians (or Bavarians, for that matter).

And what the heck did he eat at that restaurant? Gaisburger Marsch!? I haven't even heard of that dish! So it tasted like crap, you say? Or worse than crab gelato? Then why not avoid the usual tourist traps, that serve meals only few Germans know, and go to a decent restaurant where normal people dine?

Still, it seems the worst thing about Germany was Charlton Heston.
Oh my... that's not fair.  *sigh*

Spock is not impressed with your Bible performance. Neither was Shatner.
