While I am sure that there are some people out there that might be irritated with my current spamming of their friends pages, I say to them: These messages are too important. I want you to take a look at some of the links that I post - take 20 minutes out of your day, hell you probably spend that much time on MySpace - and just read a couple things.
I remember that when I was little the air was clear enough that I could see the coastal range from my dad's house and could make out the individual trees that dotted the skyline. The brownish haze that currently hangs around the horizon was not there. The air didn't really have a "smell", unless it was from the nearby cow pasture...but the air itself didn't stink.
We didn't have "API Warnings" for days when it was severely polluted. The rain was clean. You didn't need to worry about bacteria in lakes eating your brain or flesh.
It's not simply that people are noticing more of what's always been going on; things are changing and not for the better.
The good news is that it's not too late. Here are some things that need to happen:
Get rid of coal.Reduce and eventually eliminate gasoline.Get creative.Shop green, shop local. The way we operate has got to change.
