Nature and excercise

I finished King Rat last night.  I started reading it Saturday evening as my kids took a shower.  I devoured that book.  I haven't read like that in years.  Honestly...I can't remember ever reading like that.

I gotta admit, the ending was a little anti-climactic.  I felt like the author put far too much emphasis on the Drum 'n Bass DJ scene, that the power behind this music was what ultimately empowered the protagonist to the degree of (very nearly) defeating the villain.  Sure, no less plausible than the villain himself...It worked for the story, but that awakening in Saul seemed brutally cumbersome in comparison to the rest of the story, like he simply decided to win.

Don't get me wrong.  I loved this book, and like I said before I haven't had a book keep my attention like this in...well, ever.  This was just something that kindof caught me off guard about the story.

This morning I decided to take a bike ride out to a local coffee shop and stop at the little country store here.  I've forgotten how good it feels to use my legs.  I mean, sure, I use my legs all the time, but not like this.  It was so refreshing to fly down the paved trail in the morning sun, hitting invisible, billowing clouds of scent from the pines.  It smelled like dessert and pine and sand and rock, it was invigorating.  It encouraged me to pedal faster so I could reach the next smell.

The girls are having a great time, I think they're finally getting used to being on vacation and not having a set schedule for our plans.  I like it, but I'll admit that it's tough to get used to.  I need to put them to bed earlier though; it's too difficult to keep up their energy until 9:00 when they're out doing this much stuff.  I am going to bring my camera with me today; yesterday I left it at home for the most part.

Speaking of my camera...I am starting to think that there's something wrong with my focus.  That or my hands shake a lot more than I think they do.

Here's some pics to tide y'all over:

The girls and a puzzle yesterday morning.

Hot tub kids after the pool yesterday afternoon.

A blurry shot of the living room.

Look familiar?

One of the underpasses on the network of bike paths.  This is the one I rode through to get coffee this morning.

Early this AM there were deer about 10 feet from our back porch.  I'll see if I can get a picture of them tomorrow.
