...but recs too! Admittedly most of the fic (still backlogging my fanfic reading) I note are things I would recommend to someone, but that's partly because those are the ones I review and thus are the ones I have a record of. I go through a lot more fic than what I note. Luckily for me I tend to go through them quickly :D Although there is the occasional story that starts well and ends gag.
Anywho, on to my
yuletide reading and rec list.
In order of how they appear in my gmail account:
Mercury Scatters by Northland and written for me! This was my yuletide treat :D It's for William Gibson's Neuromancer, Molly-centric and fantastic. As Northland said on Molly's behalf: "Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, and a razorgirl's gotta cut."
Mnemergist by
allburning and written for me!!!!! Also Neuromancer but allburning managed to pull in all parts of my yuletide request incorporating Molly, Lady 3Jane and Neuromancer. It's amazing. A-mazing.
Reaction Mechanism by spastic_visions for Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. To quote myself: It's...everything Billy should be: ambitious, defeated, making a muck of things and trying desperately to make it right...somehow.
A Light in the Darkness by opalmatrix for Martha Wells' The Fall of Ile-Rien Series (which, ironically, I am re-reading). Nicholas shows up out of blue and does his crazy Nicholas-thing, and solves a crime. The characterizations are spot on. Tremaine is perfect. And now that I'm re-reading the series, I can appreciate this even more.
Baozi by SteelNeko for Mulan. It's a sweet family moment between Mulan and Shang.
Christmas Dreams Come True by lauriegilbert for Ugly Betty. Apparently I was having a sweet-family-moment moment, because here's another betw Daniel and Betty. And this is truly short. Little more than a double-drabble.
At Old Tom's Place by Lady Mondegreen for Stephen King's The Stand is a future-fic that takes place, as you can imagine, at Tom's home. Actually I think Tom is the only canon character here, but it also features children of canon characters. Wait. No. I take it back. There is one other canon char in a canon role...
You Can Get Most Anything You Want by Mosca for My So-Called Life. Have I ever mentioned how much I love My So-Called? And how much I love the few good fics that have come out of the fandom? Because I do. And I do. Anywho, Rayanne, Angela and Sharon go on a road trip together that is both screwed up and troublesome and normal and awesome and just...regular. Perfectly regular. So good.
Little 15 by Kittydesade for The Chronicles of Riddick. I also have a special place in my heart for Riddick and the even fewer good CoR stories. This is so one of them. To quote myself: "It's...it's almost sweet, but not. It's full of all the awkwardness of a 14 year old girl with a crush-meets people running for the lives, without being sappy or sentimental, and without compromising anything that Riddick is. And yet it's still oddly sweet."
As Close as Hands and Feet by Scribbler for The Incredibles. A moment of normalness for people who lead non-normal lives as Dash asks Violet to help him with his girl troubles. It's a nice look at who Dash and Violet are, but who they are to each other. Even though they don't realize it.
I have more, I'm sure. I know I have quite a few things saved to read that I haven't gotten to yet. But this what I've got so far. Of course looking at my del.icio.us list, I see quite a few things that I failed to rec in reading thingies past. Le sigh.
