I know I'll enjoy at least half of them, and for the rest, I'll take a leap. Stacking them so I know I'll have a great book coming up next makes it easier to start with a completely unknown one for me.
Nice pile! I've read and enjoyed (or admired) a bunch of these -- Obelisk Gate and Stone Sky, the Rivers of London (which I do think would probably be more fun to read in English, though I don't know how good the German translations are, of course), Cloud Roads (I need to read on in the series, but this was fun). I think Memory is the best book in the Vorkosigan Saga, probably (which is saying A LOT!), but very wrenching. I remember enjoying Ashes of Honor more than the average Toby :)
And I am super, SUPER curious what you will think of Too Like the Lightning. I fell hard for this series, but know just as many people who bounced off it.
And I have actually read Mr Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore (it's by a local author). It was fun and occasionally cute. Didn't make any of my personal best-of lists, the way a lot of these other books did, but a cute read.

Everything is always more fun to read in the original language, so I try to do that where possible. They only bought the first two in this series in German (or maybe they were gifts, I don't know), and the rest is in English.

I know! We already squeed about the last two, and it's hard for me to imagine that anything could be even better. But I trust you. (Someone on the dw side also said it's her best. I'm sure you're right.)

I remember reading very mixed reviews. But I bought it anyway, so... we'll see!

Have you read the first Rivers of London novel? The whole series keeps referencing the events from it. I love the whole series! I'm not sure I could mix different book series like that. I read everything from the Newsflesh series and Rivers of London in one go. It's kind of why I haven't started Leviathan Wakes yet. There are seven (soon eight) more books. Obviously I only do that when I like the first book.
Yes, yes I did. On vacation two years ago. And then I didn't manage to read the rest, because I barely manage this challenge as it is, and those didn't belong to me. So we agreed to call them mine now, so I can read them in the course of the challenge.
I really liked the first one (even though I had to read that one in German, too), and I'm looking forward to finally continuing it.

Yeees. I would be stuck with a single series for a year if I did that, and then I'd lose my motivation (and feel guilty about not having read any of the others). I have to splice them up like this. It's not ideal - and people look at me sideways for doing it :) - but I guess it's what works for me.
Good luck with the Leviathan series soon being complete so you can start it!
It's actually a coincidence that I'll start the series and it'll probably by finished by the time I'll get to the last book. I didn't mind that the Rivers of London series isn't finished (the author seems to stick to one book per year). I know a lot of people only start a book series when there is a definite ending inside/already released.
As you can see, a lot of them are second or third (or later) parts of longer series. I thought all of those series are good (or I would have kicked them off my list). I can recommend all of them, really.
