If Stefan could resist the "feed off Elena" compulsion for the most part, why not the other compulsions that Klaus has used?
Though, I actually think I could like the new Stefan. He could be fun to have around! (Though, I do understand that anything he does now can be written off by the stans as "oh, but he's compelled," which just serves to give the writers their 'out' when they start their (inevitable) redemption part two attempt...
Also, if Klaus left town so quickly that he was there one minute and gone the next with Damon, when did he have time to track Stefan down?! Surely he'd have been better served taking Elena with him!! It's not like Damon really presented any barrier to him kidnapping her. The only barrier (as I could see it) would have been time. And yet, stopping to have a chat with Stefan (who has repeatedly proved his lack of loyalty) was of prime concern?! Huh?
Damon was sooooooooo boring this episode! It's the first time I've really, REALLY not enjoyed his screen-time. He's become all schmoopy and un-Damon and... just, not at all what interests me.
Katherine continues to be the most entertaining and effectual character on this show. By so far it's not even funny. Yes, she ended up getting the necklace stolen from her by Damon (who decided GIVING IT BACK TO ELENA WAS A GOOD IDEA EVEN THOUGH HE KNOWS THAT KLAUS WANTS IT, THAT IT WAS IMPORTANT ENOUGH FOR KATHERINE TO NEED TO STEAL IT IN THE FIRST PLACE, AND (LAST BUT NOT LEAST), HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT ITS SIGNIFICANCE IS?!! Yes, let's give it back to Elena to parade around for all the world to see. EXCELLENT IDEA! NOT!), but she also managed to figure out its importance, steal it, steal Jeremy (heee!), and find Michael. All in one episode!
The drowning thing bugged me to no end also. I mean, I get that we need to suspend out disbelief for the most part with a supernatural show, but Matt is still very human (I assume!). That was ridiculous. Also, was it just me forgetting, or was the start of this episode the first time we (conveniently!) heard about Matt and Bonnie's lifesaver past?! If that has been mentioned before then I give them a pass, but... I honestly don't remember it.
I'm pretty sure Katherine and Rebekah are the only two characters left on this show that remotely interest me! Although, I must say that the idea of Katherine and Jeremy (and Anna?!) pottering about together has some potential!

Yes, from a comedic standpoint, it's cool to have Stefan around. Always having to search for him would have gotten old soon, too. It may be interesting to see how the others react to him. It's just sad that speculation on his motivation is totally useless now. I wouldn't call myself a stan (even though I do still find him hot and love seeing him), but throwing away one of your main characters like that... . Depresses me.

True. I liked all of his scenes with Katherine. Elena apparently makes him lose all his cognitive facilities. //( I would still like to see them together and then let everything go to hell when Elena realizes she's been living in a fantasy world, imagining him to be the great hero which he's really not. :D Oh well. I think they're setting him up to be the hero, though. Like Andy said, love has changed him and now he actually is becoming a good person/vampire/whatever. Boring, but I think that's where they're going right now. Poor Ian. He doesn't like that either.

I wouldn't have said so before, but I heartily agree with you after this episode. I hope they keep it up.

I don't remember it either. Which doesn't say much, granted. :) But I think it's new, yes.

Yes. And I thought Jeremy was doomed to another season of obscurity. Heee. Might turn out more interesting after all.
