Christine Chapel is a BAMF

I’ve been watching Old Trek to get a handle on Chapel’s character. So far, I’ve been pleased. The women on TOS don't get a lot of screen time, and many of their plot lines revolve around men. It is sad, but we just work around it. Christine Chapel is one of the more prominent repeat female characters, and I think she comes off pretty well.

She steps up as the occasion demands. When an orderly attacks McCoy in The Tholian Web, she acts competently. She looks scared for just long enough for me to yell “Do something!” at the screen, and then she hyposprays the crazed orderly.

I give her a lot of credit for being a nurse. It's hard and often thankless. Christine spends a lot of time handing McCoy hyposprays, but she also helps research antidotes for the Spore of the Week. Also, she gets to go back to school and pick up an MD.

She makes soup for friends and doesn’t cry when they freak and throw it at her. Christine Chapel puts up with a lot of weird-crazy android fiancees, mind control, McCoy’s snark-but she doesn’t crack and she doesn’t quit. I respect her for it.
