Taking over SHD duties from the girl who weren't a mod that abdicated (who showed us Neal getting the rock love, so she's awesome).
Topic? Gale magic! Does DG's magic only work in the Zone, ya think? What about Azkadellia, and all the little tricks she pulled (like shrinking Ahamo *snort*) ... do you think her magic is amplified because of the

Wait, where'd that come from? Al? Eli? OMG WIND?! In Wind verse, there's this
theory factoid that no one but a magical being can sit on the throne, otherwise all the magic becomes withered, gets corrupted, or throws everything out of balance.
You keep that balance in check. It spins in you, light and dark, light and dark. You’re like a sieve, a strainer. The magic of the realms goes through you-and everything in the world touched by magic-which is pretty much everything in the world-stays in spiritual balance. There is only as much good in the world as there is evil. And only as much light in magic as there is dark.’
‘But we create the dark magic.’
‘Everything has a shadow.’ He lifted a hand, and her cheeks fell into shadow. He let it fall, and the dappling of sunlight through tiny leaves came again. ‘Everything has a shadow, but only the light has the power to move the shadow. You see?’
It pwns me hardcore.
The mystics can feel the magic and the way it moves but they can't harness it like royalty can. they're sort of the human, mortal, corporeal voice of the gods and the labour of the magic, the interlocutors of the universe. Since everyone in the O.Z. has an element that they're attached to, mystics can sense this person's element, and how, if that person became a mystic, they would have greater control over that particular element. The really powerful mystics (like the Mystic Dude, and Airofday [Wind*Verse], and Ansley of Stirbane [Wind*Verse]), all have control over every element, and leave behind "tattles of their magic". The Mystic Dude could manipulate the spectrum of light itself (d00d, so psychedelic!), Airofday altered her appearance, and Ansley left behind feathers. All of the powerful mystics emerged from one element: Mystic Dude, fire; Airofday, air; Ansley, air…
The lumens, like in Al*Verse, were like erm… little escape pods that the earth itself couldn't hold, so they projected it out like stardust onto certain people, and as long as the people were on the earth than the magic would all be connected. As soon as the person holding the lumen dies, it's permitted to inhabit a new person. Although I cant remember if the same lumen can appear twice (I think yes?). Nils and I came up with various descriptions for the differences between a mystic, a mage, an alchemist, and a lumenaire.
Lumens (those who possess a lumen are called "lumenaires")
An innate talent that is apparent from a young age, or from the age it is understood to be useful in its purpose. The lumen is used with unconscious effort.
Magic
The innate ability to manipulate the objects, elements, and natural world with conscious effort.
Mystics
People whose conscious awareness of magic is almost as powerful as those who wield MAGIC, though they have no ability to influence the world around them or to control the magic. Their magic is a sixth sense, a deeper awareness of the emotional and cerebral ripples of humans, animals, and the organic world as a whole. Mystics do not possess innate lumens given to them at the time of their birth; instead, they are the mid-life recipients of lumens that were displaced when the "host body" died. The lumen is damaged when this is done, and it will manifest itself in a negative way.
Mages
Anyone who has learned a magical skill through erudition. These people are commonly shapeshifters, as shapeshifting is one of the few branches of magic (conscious effort) available for solid study. Men and women of letters - members of the L-Four.
Alchemists
Those who utilize chemistry and philosophy to alter and influence (transmutation) the natural, organic world. Believers of an internal magic of the mind and heart (philosophy), but have no lumens and no interest in becoming a mage. Tends to be rather chaotically loyal to the alchemists' philosophy.
Anyhow, yes, the world itself made of magic. Why the hell not? That's what I say!

*reads that again*
Wow. Now I have much shame. But that's okay, I'm officially striving to be more like you.

I'm only like this because I don't take medication. *nod* You just be you, and pay no attention to that weird being behind the curtain…

On the correlation of ruler/magic/spiritual health of the realm - have you studied the Fisher King?

I like Magic. I need it. The magic is in my soul and keeps me going, much like a groovy tune playing all night long.
