Re: Sex scenes, aka "porn"
Alright, yes, we are already ranting about writing, but...argh. I feel this needs to be addressed. It actually started in said ranting, but this is a serious pet peeve of mine, so I'm posting this. Sorry.
If you are writing a sex scene, please at least ASK SOMEONE if it is physically possible. Sex on a horse is not one of these things. It just really, really annoys me and I hope SOMEONE will at least listen. No, I'm not saying you need to be a sex expert to write sex. I'm not saying you need to have watched porn for research purposes. I'm not saying you can't be a virgin and write a sex scene.
I know there's at least one website that can very politely tell you what can happen and what not, but considering that one's about gay porn I'll simply assume there has to be one for the good old het sex.
Some things are impossible, and I'm hoping that you'll at least consider 'is this actually something that could happen?' when writing. I have nothing against kinky sex, or unorthodox sex in any way. In fact, I am creepy and kind of like it.
I have no idea if the O.Z. has condoms either, but please remember they do exist, at least on the Otherside, and are very important to avoid Some Things in the world, since we don't know what else they're missing in the Outer Zone. I would not object in the least to a fic where DG or someone goes back to Earth just to buy a box full of condoms. Birth control is not exactly easy when a woman can only have sex at specific times of the month to avoid pregnancy. And no, that doesn't mean "only during their period". I'd hope most of you know enough about your own bodies to know what I'm actually talking about. Or you've watched Friends at least. Monica talks about ovulation enough that you should get it.
