This is very, very well done. One of my own reactions to this particular fandom, however much I've enjoyed it, is that given Ambrose?Glitch having had his brain sliced and plunked away else where is that even were it put back in, he'd still not be that brilliant persohn from before. With the years spent in what one would guess to be a confusing, frightening, ultra-dangerous place he'd hardly automattically go back to being Ambose of before.
Thats not to say he couldn't benefit from what we'd call 'therapy', and 'counselling, et cetera, but he'd clearly developed some coping mechanisms; in addition his moments of clarity we saw spring up there WAS that odd hesitance about Raw's mind/memory probe (and perhaps some of that occasional clarity seemed like an unspoken but not unlikely reason to make him very reluctant as he obviously WAS to dig into a past that might be full of not just things which might be terrifying, but how could he have truly, truly been certain IF he had NOT done something criminally nasty...which would have had to be super evil to have been done under the Witch's reign). And who knoww what things he might have actuakly done, in the ordeal survival would-MUST have been?
Rejoined to his brain or not, he is never going to be that former Ambrose, is he? Any more than Wyatt, or Raw-or Azkadelia or her parents can simply reshuffle themselves back to the selves they were, once upon a time...
It would be better for Glitch to be praised for that very survival, made to feel the new Glitch/Ambrose is going to be different but ought to be proud of his strenght of will in getting through all those bad years-treasure knowing he once was that brilliant and good-hearted enough to have wanted to use those gifts of intellect for enhancing his world and its people, praised and reminded of his heroism in helping SAVE that world, and helped to excplore how best to intergrate all these things into a new persona while developing more, new, even exciting skills and mechanisms coping with his new life and all its possibilities. Plus the simple fact medicine improves all the time (I imagine the same would be true of magic), so who knows what te future hold in the ways of such possibility/discovery?
Poor little scarecrow, ne needs some sound, realistic, compassionate attention, not MORE pressure to be what others want or expect...'sniff'...
Ohk, am I the only one who wants to yank Dr. Evil outta this fic and give him a good old ass-whuppin'?! ;D
Which is not to say we should...
Aw, you know a fic's good when it provokes readers into such thoughts!!
Again, excellent writing, great job!
