This is astounding. What a glorious start to the morning.
I've read it twice, third time I was going to pick up things to quote, but it's all wonderful and vivid. A few of my especial favorite moments, though, were these:
until the light in his eyes shifted just so.
She came to Glitch's door swathed in silk and lace, every inch the princess
Now wearing nothing but a sapphire tiara
And the whole concept of WHERE she meets with each of them is so ingenius: the woodcarver in the sawdust, and the courtier in the fancy fabrics, and the viwer in the soft earth.
Then I got to the first phrase in this amazing part and actually gasped out loud from a sort of delighted surprise, because you just make it obvious somehow it's a Good Thing, and I just got happier with each passing word:
And some days she'd spy Glitch shaking sawdust from his coat, and some days Raw would be too slow covering a yawn to conceal a wine-blackened tongue, and some days she'd find Cain contemplating a yellow birch leaf.This was an absolutely ( ... )
