**LABYRINTH**
Cain spoke a little louder to be heard over the entertainment unit nattering in the background. "So if you'll just ask the archduke about the report..."
Glitch glanced over reluctantly. "Wyatt, does this have to be done during 'Heart Like a Labyrinth'?"
Cain blinked slowly and turned to the image flickering on the wall, where a distraught woman was flailing her arms at a man in a mask. "You're holding up queen's business for a romance serial?"
“It’s a very important episode! I’ve been waiting half an annual for this arc to wrap up!”
“Glitch!”
“Fine!” Glitch left.
Cain lingered.
**YELLOW**
Glitch strode back in his office with a handful of freshly signed documents. "Well, Wyatt, I...."
"Shhh!” From his vantage point on the sofa, Cain gestured to the drama playing out on the far wall. “We're about to find out if Amanda's twin is really the mother of Maximillian's baby or if her Alchemist boyfriend made a clone!"
Glitch closed the door to darken the room and headed for the yellow sofa. "Pffft! Honestly, Wyatt, the Viewer nanny would have seen right through that! Move over."
Cain complied, Glitch settled in beside him, one leg folded under. “We need popcorn.”
**Teardrop**
“Maybe she’s not really a Viewer.”
“You’re so suspicious.”
“Well, what do we really know about her anyway?”
Glitch rounded up several popcorn pieces and crunched into them. “Hush, the sponsor break’s almost over.”
“Thank the Gale. Is this whole program supported by Teardrop Furniture Polish?”
“Mm. And various competing brands of cosmetics.”
Music swelled, heralding the return of Amanda Barnswallow Barringsworth.
“Why do you think the nanny’s not really a Viewer?” Glitch whispered.
Cain reached for a handful of popcorn. “She’s the last person anyone would suspect. I bet that beard is totally glued on.”
“Ah.” Glitch nodded sagely.
**ESCAPE**
“You’ve got to be kidding me!” Glitch exclaimed. He fell back into the sofa with a thump.
Cain grinned a slow, insufferable grin. “You’ve gotta trust the master, kid.”
“But… but…. How could you possibly have known?”
The credits to Heart Like a Labyrinth scrolled toward the ceiling.
“Well, once I deduced that Bainbridge the Third was really the alchemist’s old business partner I figured his ex-wife was probably in on the plan from the start. And when Charity Whistlesweet made her escape from what was obviously a setup at the abandoned gallery, it was all clear.”
“Clear as mud!”
**LIMIT**
Glitch opened the door and handed Cain his documents. “So, um, now you know my guilty little secret from noon to one, I don’t suppose you’d want to join me tomorrow?”
“Well, I guess some harmless entertainment wouldn’t be unreasonable. Somebody’s gotta help you keep up with the plotlines.”
“Just shut up and remember it’s your turn to bring the popcorn.”
“I hope the queen’s not angry I’m late getting back.”
“You mean there’s a limit to your powers of observation? She’s always absent from noon to one. Who do you think hooked me on this serial twenty annuals ago?”
