After they made love, Cain always drifted to sleep right away. Glitch would be awake for hours, just gazing at his lover, running his hands lightly and lovely over Cain’s body. Glitch’s body would be singing with satisfaction and more often than not, with longing. Even when Cain was joining their bodies, driving deep into him, Glitch would feel a need to be closer, to have more, to be one with this golden body and glorious soul if even just for a moment. Then he could hold that moment forever, for…after. After, when the inevitable happened and Cain found someone else, some beautiful woman or man who wasn’t a headcase like him. He knew it was just a matter of time.
That was why he would fight sleep on those nights when Cain’s loneliness would drive him to seek out another lonely soul for solace. Why he would try to memorize him even with his sadly lacking synapses, he would try to with all his senses, to make Cain so embedded in him that he would never forget. Glitch wanted to make him an involuntary response, as much a part of him as why he remembered to breath. For after. For when he was gone and Glitch was alone again. For after.
