Leona hadn’t meant for it to happen that way, but Ambrose’d convinced himself she’d done it on purpose. She could just tell.
To cap it all, Hazel Midgley and her merry band of bitches were loitering outside the examination hall as they left.
As Ambrose stalked past, Hazel turned to smirk at Leona.
“Lover’s quarrel, Mrs. Scarecrow?” she cooed maliciously.
Ambrose flinched, and Leona pursed her lips as the back of his neck turned brick red.
“You can keep my pants, Hazel,” she said. “You know, the pink ones? Just don’t give 'em back to Jasper.”
That shut her up.
