DeMilo shifted his numb ass on the log he sat upon and cursed running into Zero’s crew. Bad for business; longcoats always took without paying out here on the Old Road.
Scowling as moans and laughter escaped the wagon, he nearly fell off the log as a longcoat kicked the elbow under the hand supporting DeMilo’s chin, snorting nastily. He glared at the man. “What’s Zero so giddy about, anyway?”
“Cain. We stuck him in a suit five days ago.”
He felt his eyes become saucers, and when fresh laughter erupted from the wagon, DeMilo joined in.
