This is in response:
How sad ..... that you think it is ok b/c of the bad economy to actually not be ADA compliant.Don't rent shops that are not ADA compliant and definatly don't build buisnesses that are not ADA compliant!!! ITS THE LAW OF THIS GREAT COUNTRY. This is not the Third Reich--we believe in equal access under the law for the disabled.
No more sour grapes--if you settled a suit it is b/c you know you are NOT ADA compliant!!!

I am a real person and I believe ADA is a good law with good intention but I refuse to believe this lawyer is helping the disability. I know there are real disability cases out there that needs to be addressed rather than about mirrors being 2 inches too high.
Gabriella, I am sorry you feel that you need to attack me but I have nothing against you. I think it's great that you are passionate about this matter and I am happy that there's people like you.
I'm sorry to hear about your friend and I am not against the ADA or anyone with disability. I too have friends who are disabled and wheelchair bound and had to use crutches at one point so I sympathize with you on this issue.
However, this lawyer is taking advantage of the law as well as the disable to make money, I've heard many businesses say that he only hits small businesses and just wants them to settle, not even negotiating about how to help the disable. Also if he was an advocate for the disabled, why doesn't his firm donate to the cause of disability charities or even donate the settlement money towards that cause.
If this lawyer even cared about the disabled, he would have went straight to the government and start pressuring them to implement more state enforced laws like they do with the health inspector. I support a better awareness towards ADA laws, it's so complicated that most people would not even begin to understand the law.
http://www.ada.gov/ If they have similar programs, they can not only help the businesses become aware of ADA laws but also create new jobs. Right now, our economy needs it.
Also it's good to look at it from the business' stand point, what kind of buildings do they have? Is it possible to remodel? Do they have enough money to make the renovation? I heard many many stories and I have posted the links on his review that there are lawyers like him who are there just to make money, and taking advantage of the disabled. That is wrong and even more inhumane.
Also you're talking about what's happening now with the economy, already so many people have lost their jobs and small businesses are struggling as it is and they are not trying to discriminate against the disable, they just don't have the money to make it accessible. I have talked to business owners and they barely can pay their workers and with this issue, it's just more for them to deal with and sooner or later, they'll have to closed down. Same thing happen to some restaurant in NorCal too.
If there were more government support for the disabled, they can create jobs with new programs and education to help create this awareness because I know it is a major problem and it needs to change but from the government level and this lawyer just in it for the money and not for the cause. If he was, he'd give it to the charities and disabled organization.
Also I believe California and Hawaii (I think Florida) are the only state that would give monetary compensation for violation of ADA laws, the other states would make the businesses pay the state or change what needs to be changed.
So I look at it from both point of views, business and disabled. What is more inhumane, to take money from small businesses who are struggling in this economy as it is and not even giving them a chance to change or taking advantage of the disabled for their personal gain.
Again I am sorry to hear about your friend, but I respect them a lot more than I do this lawyer. They are strong people and deserves better than a lawyer out for an easy income.
Thank you for reading and sorry it was long but I am passionate about justice on both sides. I hope you understand.
