A/N: I'M BACK!
- if you hear this on the radio... -
It’s unexpected, hearing Cook’s voice through his speakers after all this time. The words cut into him like a knife, piercing straight into his heart.
”David…just, don’t, okay?” Cook’s exhausted, David can tell by his eyes, by the tone in his voice. He gets it, he’s sick of the fighting too but he’s not willing to let go as easily as Cook is.
“But…I love you.” His voice falls weak and he chokes back tears.
Cook sighs. “I love you too. But I just can’t anymore Arch, I can’t. I’m sorry.” He stands before David is able to stop him and it’s the last of Cook David will see.
When he gets home the next day, all of Cook’s things are gone and it’s like any sign of them has been erased and David feels like he’s drowning.
- wherever we are, we’re miles apart, I know that we tried, but this is the last goodbye -
David’s stopped, car pulled over to the side of the road as all the emotions he’d tried to suppress come flowing out. He’d never fully let himself feel after Cook left, just voided himself of all emotion. No months of heartache come flooding back and he’s drowning again. Before, he’d held onto hope. Cook would take him back. They were perfect together, they made sense, it couldn’t really be the end. Except now he knew it really was over for good. That night had been their last goodbye.
