Lena Lucille Thomas, 76, Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Peru, passed away at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2006. Her death came peacefully with her family at her side.
She was born Lena Lucille Oden in Wells County on November 9, 1929, to Jesse Verne and Delora Twibell Oden, both deceased. On November 26, 1971 she was united in marriage to Frank Thomas, who survives.
The couple lived in the Peru area where she was a member of the Oakdale Baptist Church and was employed at Redmon's Basket Factory. She attended school in Amboy.
They moved to Marshalltown eleven years ago. She has attended the Calvary Baptist Church there, and enjoyed spending time at Kathe's Krafts in Marshalltown.
Lucille will be fondly remembered for her love of family. She enjoyed crocheting and ceramics. She crocheted many blankets and sleepers for the neonatal department of the Research Hospital in Kansas City, and also won several awards for her ceramics.
Left to mourn her loss are her loving husband of 34 years, Frank, Marshalltown; sons Dan Drake and wife Marlene, and Tim Drake and wife Anglea; and daughter-in-law Jan Drake, all of Peru; ten grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; step-daughters Sandra and Debbie, both of Palmetto, Fla.; step-children Patty Murphy and husband Tim and Ken Thomas, of Kokomo; her four sisters, Naomi Brown, Marion; Kathryn Ramsey, Amboy; Marietta Barnhart, Bluffton; and Nina Bowland and husband Clyde, Kokomo; and brother Paul Oden, Jonesboro; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
In death she has rejoined her son Franklin David Drake, Jr., and her parents.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 22, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru, with Pastor Ken Walker officiating.
Burial will follow in Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. the funeral home
**Sidenote: My Grandpa turned 65 the same day that he told the doctors to take his wife off of the respirator... just a sad little fact to add to it all...**
