Books 2010

001. Wizard's First Rule - Terry Goodkind

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

My first book for 2010 and also the first book of a very long series. I wanted to read those books after I started watching Legend of the Seeker and so far I haven't been disappointed. It's really fun to read and so much different from the series.

002. The Stone of Tears - Terry Goodkind

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

My second book for 2010 and also second book of a very long series. I wanted to read those books after I started watching Legend of the Seeker and so far I haven't been disappointed. It's really fun to read and so much different from the series and that became even more obvious with The Stone of Tears. The characters are still there, the outcome I guess as well, but the story itself is told very differently and some things that make the books so interesting and amazing are completely left out.

003. Des Teufels Maskerade - Victoria Schlederer

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

My third book and a very quick and easy read. I loved it from page one on. The different styles of writing - from journey entries over letter to "normal" storytelling, it had everything I totally love. It was distracting and had a great story. It makes me want to get a second book and to continue reading.

004. Chroniken der Weltensammler: Der Palast des Poseidon - Thomas Thiemeyer

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

I loved the first book of this series and it was a very quick and easy read. So when I learned that the second one was to be published soon I had to pre-order it. I wasn't disappointed when I finally got it and immediately started to read it. I love how Thiemeyer manages to combine history, other books, myths and very colorful and interesting characters into wonderful adventure stories.

005. Reptilia - Thomas Thiemeyer

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

After reading "Die Chroniken der Weltenbummler" I was curious to read more from Thiemeyer. And I wasn't disappointed. I really enjoyed the storyline and the great mixture of characters within the book.

006. Medusa - Thomas Thiemeyer

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

So I am kind of on a roll with Thomas Thiemeyers books. I really, really enjoyed reading Medusa. Not just because of the main storyline which was really, really interesting, but because of the cute lovestories. I also love how much respect Thomas Thiemeyer pays to the cultures he is describing in his books and how much thought he puts into developing each and every character. It makes them much more real and more appealing, even when they are supposed to be the "bad" guys.

007. Magma - Thomas Thiemeyer

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

Okay. So Magma was - in a way - completely different from the other books I read so far. I needed a little longer to read it, but that is mostly due to lack of time. Nonetheless I liked it. Especially the cross-references to other books. It's like he's writing in his own little universe :D

008. Nebra - Thomas Thiemeyer

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

The last of Thiemeyers books that I had left to read and so far, I liked it best. First of all Hannah and John were back and I just love how Thiemeyer combines his works and brings in some ironic facts and all. It was a fun an quick read.

009. Rubinrot - Kerstin Gier

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

I bought this book, because anli told me it was an awesome read and it wasn't an understatement. I absolutely loved this book. I finished it in about a day even though I was working and all. I cannot wait to get the second book in my hands and continue reading this awesome story. It's very refreshing and original

010. Papa, der Wein korkt (Corked) - Kathryn Borel

✮ ✮ ✮

I bought this book, because it reminded me of me and my dad. There were some similarities in the relationship of Kathryn and her father to the one I have with my dad. And it plays in a region of France not too far away from here. It was a fun read in the end- And some things made me think about things that happen to me with my dad too all the time.

011. Saphirblau - Kerstin Gier

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

OMG LOL. I made a run for the bookstore the day after I finished Rubinrot. I got back from work and made my dad drive me to the city, so I could get the second book and I read it in one night. I just love, love, love, love it :D It has Bon Jovi references, funny characters and addicting storyline and everything I love in a book. It captures me and doesn't let me go. It makes me want to go reading and reading and reading and reading and I missed that feeling.

012. Herz der Finsternis - Ulrike Schweikert

✮ ✮

Okay. So this one took me forever to read. I started at the beginning of the year and just couldn't get into it. So after reading all the other books lately and being in reading mood I decided to give it another go. I just finished it.
It was an okay read in the end. Nothing too spectacular, but okay in the end. The story lacked many things and there were just too many things I have read before to make it really good. But yeah okay.

013. Warrior Cats - Into the Wild - Erin Hunter

✮ ✮ ✮

The reason I started to read this book was, cause the name of the "Maincat" is Sammy. Those of you who know me a little longer know that I had a babycat called Sammy that I raised with a bottle and that was later poisoned.
So this about my motivation of buying the first book of a series of books about Warrior Cats. Those who have cats and know how they are behaving and all will have all sorts of fun reading it. Some things are quite accurately captured. It's a fun and easy read. Nothing to spectacular. But a fun and quick read for cat lovers. And there are many adventures in there as well.

014. Splitterherz - Bettina Belitz

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

This was the best book I read so far this year and maybe one of the best I ever read. I didn't know much about the storyline when I started reading it, I didn't know what to expect, but the book captured me right from the start. I had to keep on reading and reading and reading. I loved the wonderful way the story kept wrapping me deeper and deeper into its world, the fascinating and misterious characters and a plot that never failed to draw my intention and spark that reading fire within me :D So 1000% love for this book.

015. Black Hills - Nora Roberts

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

So after reading Splitterherz it was hard to find a book to keep my attention for more than a few minutes. So I went for something completely different contextwise. Crime and romance is always a good mixture :D and especially Nora Roberts books. It didn't take me long to read the book and it was a nice change to read in English again after so many German books. The story was good, the characters funny and sexy. Very good mixture.

016. Das Tal Season 1 - Das Spiel - Krystyna Kuhn

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

I didn't really expect much when I bought this book. The story sounded interesting, the first book in a series, the second already out and I thought just give it at try. Maybe it's a fun read and it turned out to be way more than that. Secrets kept until the end, interesting characters and something unexpected. It took me a little more than 3 hours to swallow this book. I can't wait for more and I am really glad that I have to make another trip to the bookstore tomorrow to pick up a book I ordered. Means I can buy number 2 :D

017. Arkadien erwacht - Kai Meyer

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

Another book that was suggested to me by anli. I had no idea about the subject of the book, just that she told me it was good and I should read it and once again, I wasn't disappointed. First I thought, what the hell is wrong with you girl and I really didn't like her all that much, but the more the story continued the better I liked her. The development of the storyline took a while and continued slowly and steadily, getting more and more intense towards the end. Something that made me keep on reading and reading until I was done. Not your usual Mafia story I'd say and an interesting point of view. I cannot wait for book number two.

018. Aschenputtel Fluch - Krystyna Kuhn

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

So after reading "Das Tal" I wanted to read more by Krystyna Kuhn, cause I just loved her way of writing in "Das Tal". The only book they had in the bookstore was "Aschenputtel Fluch" (Cinderellas Curse), so I bought it. It took me about 3 hours to read this book in one go. Her way of writing is quite capturing and enchanting and her characters are easy to get into and easily likeable. Wrapped in the story with a touch of romance and a suicide are the every day sorrows of a young girl trying to find her place in the world. Also she's really smart, a good student and therefore often excluded. Kind of reminded me of myself a bit. Only my fellow students didn't mob me, they just forgot I existed sometimes.

019. Heaven Stadt der Feen - Christoph Marzi

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

I've been running around this book for weeks. Always reading in the back and never buying it. So yesterday I decided I wanted to get it and it wasn't in the bookstore. It was supposed to be there, but the guy in the store didn't find it, so he ordered it. Today I went there to pick it up and was told that it wasn't in the boxes that were delivered today, but that I should ask the nice man in the fantasy section, maybe he could find one of the two missing ones for me. Instead my uncles wifes sister asked me if she could help and I told her. And tata, she found the book in one of the drawers. You might ask why I am telling you all that. Well, it's somewhat magical, at least to me, and in a way fitting with the books story. Before I started to read it about 3 and half hours ago, I was nervous I wouldn't like it, cause I had wanted it so badly and had danced around it for so long. But I decided to start reading it anyway and soon found myself in a magical new world, trapped in a fascinating web of romance, fairy tales and mystery. One of the most beautiful stories about fairie that I have ever read. A whole new way of how fairies come into being and it's so hopelessly romantic, I feel like I am flying. I am completely smitten and in love with this book. If I thought that Splitterherz was my highlight so far ... this book beats it and I have to add yet another star in my ratings.

020. Puerta Oscura - David Lozano Garbala

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

Okay, so there seems to have been a big fuss about this book and the story sounded really promising. So I bought it and decided to read it after I had finished Heaven. The original book - as the name of the author might suggest - is in Spanish. And I would love to read it in Spanish one day. Cause while the story itself was good, the translation was really bad and made reading the book quite the task sometimes. The translation was too close to the Spanish original, a problem given how different - at least to me - the Spanish and German sentence structures are. So it was more trying to imitate the Spanish language then telling the actual story. Many repetitions in words, weird German sentences and all spoiled the book a bit for me. Also the ending was rather weird ... I am not sure if there will be a second book here

021. Julia - Anne Fortier

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

During one of the bookstore trips I discovered this beautiful book. I really liked the cover, so I took it and read on the back. While I was doing that anli came to me and told me she read it and that it was just beautiful. So I decided to buy it.
Some of you might know that I am totally in love with Shakespeare and that I just love Romeo and Juliet. I don't know all of it by heart like Guilietta in the book, but I love it anyway.
What I really loved about this book was the way the characters were drawn and developed, how the story and all the happenings just fell into place and made all sense in the grand scheme of the book and how much love and effort has been put into creating this magical story that so very well linked past to present and tale to reality.
Another plus was that it all took place in Siena. A city that my family has a special connection to, cause Santa Caterina is both my grandmas and my name patron.

022. Captivated - Nora Roberts

✮ ✮ ✮

This was a really quick read inbetween books. Nora Roberts is always good for some good, romantic reading inbetween. Even though I have to admit that I was glad it wasn't longer. The subject wasn't all mine.

023. Alterra - Die Gemeinschaft der Drei - Maxime Chattam

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

Alterra Die Gemeinschaft der Drei also was a really quick read. The story reminded me a lot of War of the Worlds and to some extend of Lord of the Flies given that after a storm that killed or "turned" most adults into evil beings the children are now left to form and build a new society and to make the world a safe place again. Since this was only the first book, there is no conclusion yet. And our three heroes have just set out to safe the World.

024. Das Tal Die Katastrophe - Krystyna Kuhn

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

It took my way longer to read the second book than the first book, but that was more due to the Saturday trips to Frankfurt and work than the book. Cause now that I had some time to finally read it I read it in one go and it was just as good as the first one. Still the mystery continues and I cannot wait for the third part in November. This book brought only little answers and left me with even more questions. It's so hard to have to wait now.

025. Slave to Sensation - Nalini Singh

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

Yet another book I read because it was recommended to me by anli and it was really distracting. Something I really need these days. It was light enough to not require my full concentration which I cannot seem to give to anything at the moment. I like the general concept of the series and the world that is created in it. The Psy first reminded me of the Vulcans, Mr. Spock in particular, only missing the pointed ears. The main characters are easy to relate to and the story itself was really capturing. Since I have to following 3 books at home already. I'll go on with #2 right away after night of sleep.

026. Smaragdgrün - Kerstin Gier

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

This book was very much anticipated. I had pre-ordered it online long before its actual release date and now it took me some time to finally start reading it. But I loved it and it took me less than 10 hours to read it. It's all floating together so nicely. The character development really wonderful and the end just the cutest thing ever. I absolutely adored it.

027. Korona - Thomas Thiemeyer

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

I lost count of the number of books written by Thomas Thiemeyer that I read this year. But just like with all the others I read, I wasn't disappointed at all. I actually had no idea what the storyline would be. I just knew I wanted to get the book, cause all of his other books had been so amazing.
The reading pace is really wonderful. The length of the chapters just perfect. The characters are once again more than interesting and excellently developed. The storyline is fascinating, capturing and won't let you go until you finally reached the last page. I started it about 5 hours ago and couldn't stop until I was done. Definately 6 stars on my personal ranking

028. Die Prophezeihung der Schwestern - Michelle Zink

✮ ✮ ✮

It was a nice read, nothing spectacular though. I am not a really huge fan of books written from a personal point of view and in present tense. But the story in itself was interesting. The first book of a series and at the end you want to know how it'll go on and if the heroine will find her happy ending.

29. Arkadien brennt - Kai Meyer

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

Damn, this was one amazing read. I flew through the pages and there were so many unexpected holy crap and what the fuck moments in such an awesome and good way that I now can't wait to get my hands on book #3. I hope it'll continue to be so awesome.
The characters are getting more and more interesting and sharp. I especially like the development of Rosa and I can't wait to see how it'll go on with her.

30.Wo mein Herz wohnt - Nora Roberts

✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

So book #30 was something romantic and quick and I choose this one, because it was about a rancher in Montana and horses. And maybe cause it reminded me - at least landscape wise - of Legends of the Fall which some of you might know is one of my all time favorite movies.
It was a quick and lovely read and just what I expected it to be.
