Icon Meme

From starfishchick.
1. Reply to this post and I will select five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose (if you feel like it).
3. Other people can them comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will result in a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

Why not, right?

Anyway - here are my five:

Made by readers of the xkcd_rss feed (sertrel and bluebombardier). This xkcd strip made absolutely no sense to me at first, then I caught this YouTube video of the Discovery Channel commercial (in fact, I just watched it again now, and so should you!), and decided that the xkcd take was just brilliant. As is the original, of course.

Made by pouringicons. I can't remember where I came across this icon (or, for that matter, pouringicons), but the quote itself comes from Terry Pratchett. A little perspective can be a great thing. I was never strong at geography, but that's mostly the social side (countries, etc.) that tripped me up. I was great at identifying orographic precipitation. (Side-note: my Firefox spell-checker doesn't even know the word "orographic"! How absurd!)

Ah, poor Pluto. Cut by the solar system like that... it can be disheartening. This icon was produced by mortenavida, with inspiration from opiumgaze, in a place I can no longer find. I had a link to the source material once upon a time, but I lost it. Nevertheles! I enjoy the absurdity of this icon. And in absurdity lies truth: after all, be it culling a f-list, or classifying the solar system, isn't it all just a popularity game? ;)

Highway 24 no longer exists (in Ontario, at least). It was downloaded during the Harris era to the local county, where it became County Road 124 (Country Road 24 presumably already existing). The politics of that decision aside, along with the tremendous negative effect it has had on the safety of that road in the winter (two words: potato farms... okay, more than two words: flat fields on either side of the road that lead to major snow-drifts, which used to be prevented by the use of snow-fences, which the county cannot afford, leading to frequent winter road closures), Highway 24 was, to all intents and purposes, the last stretch of road before the farm. (I don't count the final 5 minutes along our concession road.) I use this icon when talking about farm stuff - which I rarely do, nowadays.

"Van Batman" is an icon I grabbed from lordbleys. I'm not sure if lordbleys is the original author, but that's as far as I can credit. Again with the absurd, but so well-executed!
