I have been confused for quite some time about why Christians tend to support Bush and Republicans in general. Of course, the main reason is usually that they are uninformed about politics and all they know is that they believe abortion is murder and homosexuality is deviant. They may not know that Bush has policies that harm the environment or show favoritism to big corporations. Because they are uninformed about MOST issues, they can only support Bush based on those limited issues related to their faith.

The thing that bothers me is that the party who claims to share the same values as these largely uninformed, but strongly moral people, are the people who glorify materialism and money. It's really strange. Christians are not supposed to be driven by the love of money. Secondly, I think a lot of Christians are missing the point of their own religion, which teaches tolerance and loving your neighbor. Right now in America, there are people(aka George Bush) who want to take away the rights of homosexual Americans, making it impossible for them to arrange the funeral of someone they've been monogamously partnered with for 40 years, or to even visit them in the hospital. I'm sorry, but what would Jesus do?? He wouldn't intentionally take those sort of rights away from people. HE would display love and tolerance for them.

Also, the same people who claim to value life so ardently also support the DEATH penalty and are almost animalistically in support of war. I think true Christianity is a beautiful thing. The preservation of life is a beautiful thing. But this faith people claim to have today...the one that is making them support this President...is full of inconsistencies. How is George Bush displaying Christian qualities? I just don't see it.

And of course(perhaps most importantly), the constitution expressly separates itself from any religious affiliation whatsoever. Any argument based upon faith is null and void in the realm of government.

Sorry if that was long and/or disorganized in structure.

i don't think issues related to my faith are "limited" at all. my faith is what makes me who i am, and influences every single decision i make. i can't trivialize it based on the PRESIDENT of all things!

i am almost undecided on the death penalty but there are Biblical arguments for it. i would suggest looking up what christians really believe and stand for... just so you know why it is important to some to vote for somebody who is a christian in a position of power.
