Good food, good friends

Today I've been running around like a crazy person getting all the groceries for my birthday on Sunday. I've been to at least 6 different places, and I still feel like I forgot something. Odd thing is that the hardest thing to get a hold of was fresh salmon. For a while it was all over the place, but there was a price increase and now it's the equivalent of tracking down plutonium. Luckily my fish guy likes me.

Menu for Sunday:

- Salmon Tartar

- Sweet chili/lime marinated shrimp

- Red mangold salad with soy marinated duck breast and sesame

- Arugula salad with grilled chicken, marinated red peppers and walnuts

- Classic potato salad

- Freshly baked oregano rolls

- And chocolate cheesecake

Why yes, I love making marinades. How'd ya guess?

Tonight we're going to the local watering hole to celebrate and get in touch with our inner Barry White. And tomorrow I'll prep most of the above while cleaning and setting the table. Oh, did I mention that every utensil in my house is presently dirty? I have the mother of all dishes to do, so let's hope the party gods treat me with benevolence and I won't have too much of a hangover tomorrow. Also, dinner with the 'rents Saturday night, so I'll want to be on top of things.

So yeah. 28 years old. I'll get all existential about that tomorrow if I find the time. Meanwhile, I'll feel pretty good about having a birthday WEEKEND, as opposed to the oldfashioned and limited birthDAY.

food, friends, birthday
