After being out of high school for 3 years, I'm now enrolled in college!!! I've spent the last week enrolling at Cedar Valley College in Dallas. I'll be taking their online "Distance Education Veterinary Technology Program". I got confirmation last night that I am now officially enrolled in the program and my college application has been accepted.
The Summer 2008 semester begins 5/12/08. I've signed up for only one class though: General Hospital and Clinic Information 1.
According to their website, it is strongly recommended that you take only one class the first semester because the oline program is a very, very different way of going to school and it takes awhile to get a routine down. After that I can take as many courses a semester that I want. I can complete the program in 2-4 years and I will graduate with a Associate in Applied Science degree. After that to become a credentialed veterinary technician I will have to take the Veterinary Technician National Exam.
There are 4 levels of courses each semester and I must complete the general education courses before moving on to Level 2. General Hospital and Clinic Information 1 is an introductory level course designed to give each student the skills necessary to function as a receptionist in a veterinary hospital. The class focuses on telephone techniques, veterinary medical terminology, medical records, filling prescriptions, recognition of common breeds of dogs and cats, the admittance and discharge of patients, and the development of good interpersonal and communication skills. Practical assignments are directed towards the development of basic reception skills in a small animal practice.
Sounds like a interesting course. I pretty much know about most of that stuff already since I've worked there for almost 2 years now (scary that it's been that long, but it doesn't feel like it). I can complete the assignments thoughout the week and alot of the course work will have to be done while at work. A mentor will have to sign off stating that I have performed tasks at an acceptable level and then I can submit my coursework for grading.
They've been asking me to sign up for the program for several months at work but I've been a little leery of doing so. But I think I'm at a point now that I'm ready to commit myself to this program. I feel like I've grown so much this year that I can do it. And work is still offering to pay for the whole program. Now that the paperwork is all complete and I'm enrolled. I can sit back and relax and I'm starting to get really excited about it. I'm finally going to school to acheive my dream!!
Now enough with that and on to other news in my life....
In april we have the CVC National veterinary conference in Baltimore MD again this year and myself and my buddy Michele, our vet tech at work have been asked to go for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. 2 whole nights away from home in a hotel partying in the big city. The conference is awesome during the day but I had so much fun AFTER the conference last year. I cannot wait to go. A couple other people from work may be going but Michele and I are the only two who get to spend Sunday night and Monday as well. It's gonna be a blast.
I just got the new "A Fine Frenzy" CD that was featured on CSI:NY this year. I've wanted it for awhile and thought I was going to have to get it from amazon but my sister happened to see it at our Target store. I haven't listened to it completely yet but what I've heard, I'm in love with. "Near to You", "Almost Lover" and "You Picked Me" are my favorites so far.
And I am completely in love with "Feist". Dr. "K", a former vet at our office turned me on to her music and boy am I glad she did.... I didn't think I'd be in love with "indie music" but she is phenomenal. Anyone who has a chance to buy "The Reminder" should definitely do it.
My sister got the "Coco" cd by Colbie Calliat and I really love that one too. Her music is catch and beauitful. "Capri" is my favorite on that album. I really like the slow more mellower songs that have beautiful melodies. "Feist" and "A Fine Frenzy" seem to have alot of that type of songs on them.
Oh and in other news my sister now owns a Nintendo Wii and it is FREAKING AWESOME!!! I'm not a big video game fan but I play every night- it's that fun!!!! The whole family has a nightly tennis battle. We get dirty when we play. But it's so much fun.
Gonna go clean my room now I guess. I gotta get some productive stuff done today.... Till next time.
