What What!?

So I've just returned from a 3-day, 2-night backpacking trip. My quads hate me, my calves hate me even more...

My first ever backpacking trip was last year to Jewel Point Bay, on Barrier Lake. A super easy 4Km hike across flat terrain. So what made me think I could backpack 30km in three days with untold amounts of elevation gain (ok, so it was like 850m of elevation gain)? I have no idea, perhaps I was possessed by a demon trying to kill me with hiking... uhg! I survived, and in all honesty it could've been worse, we did manage to evade thunder and rain while we were still on the trail, I just should've really chosen a route more suitable to my experience level, which is next to none. I felt like crying on the trail, but the most important part is that I didn't. Nor did I throw a temper tantrum and throw my pack down a snow covered gully. I really really really wanted to, but didn't, so yay me. Pictures will be posted to facebook sometime soonish, so look there for more info.

But with me being away this weekend, I kinda forgot all about stampede, and the weird hay-ze (y'see what I did there? I made a pun!) that settles over the city. I was on the train this morning and I couldn't figure out why I was the only one dressed in business casual, and then the excess amounts of cowboy hats and bolo ties kinda hit me...it's that time of year again. My allergies also have started to kick in hard core once I returned to the city from them mountainous wilderness, which makes me believe that I may have a hay allergy, either that or I need to dust everything I own. I know those swiffer dusters are horrible for the environment, but man alive do they every work wonders... I need Method to make a cornstarch version of those dusters ASAP! But with every Stampede I experience while working downtown, I alway contemplate whether a free pancake breakfast is actually worth waking up early and standing in line listening to crappy country music. My company isn't having a Stampede party this year, so I have no good reason to actually head down to the grounds. Boy wants to go just so he can eat (and I guess later, chase me out of his place so he can deal with his upset tummy), and while I love midway food (yay corn dogs!), I don't know if paying gate admission and dealing with those stinky C-train crowds is worth the opportunity for me to spend upwards of $30 on deep fried foods on a stick. That's really what Stampede has become to me.... an opportunity to eat even more foods on a stick...oh and I suppose Superdogs... I do love those agile canines. Does anyone remember the pig and duck races? What happened to those? One of my best childhood Stampede memories is of ducks going down a 3ft slide... ducks on a slide!

Other things I have been up to... I have purged my closet of unwanted/unworn clothes, in anticipation of the big move which is coming up in....24 days (OMG!). That's pretty much all I've done for the move, which kinda sucks. I have bought some stuff for the new place, a rice cooker, an iron, an ironing board, a cake stand, a dining set... but nothing serious... like a sofa... I also really need to start packing... which means I have to dig up some boxes... oh dear. I should also start bugging Boy to get a move on with his packing... This is gonna be horrible...

Back to the clothes purging. The thing with getting rid of old clothes is that you bring up all their associated memories(Aww.. Band camp!), well that and the constant I used to WEAR that? and the I used to FIT in that? exclamations. I used to be about 10lbs lighter, and even before that I used to be about 20lbs heavier. So I have alot of skinny and fat clothes and few clothes that fit me right now. So when clothes purging, I have the dilemma of keeping all my skinny clothes in case I lose weight again, which is a goal of mine, or get rid of them because they're kinda dated. I hate closet purging. But hey, it's done! So now I have to go through all my crafting supplies, and then all my old books/notes, and I should be done with the purging, then I have to move on to the actual packing...gah!

I also cleaned my car, which is an accomplishment to me, but no else seems to notice, so I don't know if my car wasn't actually that dirty to begin with, or if I didn't do a good enough job of cleaning my car.

So yeah, kinda feeling a bit lonely since almost all of my friends are on holiday/leaving/working out in the field. (What's with this summer and India? Off the top of my head I can think of at least 4 people going to/left for India this summer!) Spending alot of time reading pug blogs and napping.
