Hello! I am glad everyone seems to have had/be having nice holiday-type things. Mine was quite nice, mostly there was trifle and family and Joanna Newsom's new album, which makes me well up and sniffle like a CHILD oh god I love it and I want everyone else to love it TOO but often it is hard to persuade people to download and listen to twelve-

I think so highly of you it's almost untrue. Don't get all blushy now, this might get effusive:

It's rare to encounter someone who's so good on both a micro- and a macro- level. You're moral and upright and all that awesome stuff, and also you're so good at people, so kind and respectful and loving. It is a joy to see the care you take to improve people's lives just by interacting with them. I don't know where the hell you get the strength to care about all the things you do.

I like watching the analytical approach you take to the problems life throws at you, and I'd like to think I've learned a bit from it. You're so brave. You make me laugh a lot. You're insanely clever, but what I really appreciate is the way you're interested in things. Your posts about maths and other suchlike things-beyond-my-ken never fail to make me smile and glow at the universe because dude, so cool; if I never understand this stuff then through your joy I understand enough to know that it's socool. You like awful puns. You like geekish things. You're a damn good writer. You're a lot of fun.

You never stop trying, in everything you do. You inspire me to be a better person, for which I can't thank you enough. You fill me with such faith. You honestly do make me feel better about the human race.
