Why? Because I care. Well, not really. But it's a nice sentiment.
Sadly, there's not a video for this song and there totally should be. But at least someone posted it with a picture of Vas. This is the song reference in a couple of my J-fics as being the song he listens to on the iPod when he's applying the war paint. Very primal and happy.
This band is from Chapel Hill, NC. They're still based in my home state, making it even cooler than it already is. If this doesn't make you want to Jitterbug, then you need to pack up and take your shit home.
One of my greatest regrets is never getting to see Concrete Blonde live. I would have probably dropped dead from being in the presence of Johnette's voice. I'd sell my soul to the devil to be able to sing like her. We have the same range, but I don't have her mad skillz yo. Let's do a line....of the Blonde.
This one played heavily into the J-fics.
My Friend Todd sings this to me every 10 September for some odd reason.
This one has always been like my anthem to Barry and his inescapable, dread influence on my writing, especially regarding the creation of Cadmus.
"I've got the ways and means to New Orleans, I'm going down by the river where it's warm and green, I'm gonna have a drink and walk around, I've got a lot to think about." Niiiiice. Very nice.
Johnette does Leonard Cohen. I think her subtle anger just shines in this vid. Another J-fic song for me.
This song contains one of the best lines of any song every written in the history of humankind: You don't scare me, you don't scare me, I cried to my ectoplasmic lover from the other side! Her ghost in this video is Andy Prieboy, the man who wrote "Tomorrow Wendy," which is my favourite Concrete Blonde song. Weird, I know, since I adore Johnette's songwriting, but there you go.
Here's an a capella version of "Tomorrow Wendy." She's performing at the Tin Angel (no relation), one of the places Barry played in 2002. Again, I would sell my soul to the devil to sing like Johnette Napolitano. No, really. Right now. Devil, bring it!
And the original version, just because it's my blog and I can post if I want to. Not a video, just the song with the album cover.
And here's Johnette and Andy doing it together. Never heard this one. Wow...
One more from Concrete Blonde, another J-fic song. This one became even more J-related after the Joker Blogs dude tweeted that he was playing solitaire in solitary a week or so ago. Guess J does know a hundred games of solitaire! ::snerk::
And since I'm apparently on a J-fic kick, here's another one. If you don't think Adam Ant is Teh Sex you're...well, you're dead.
My favourite Beastie Boys song. Serious ass-shaker, this one.
For newbies to the Cliffs, I present Shriekback (Barry Andrews is the lead singer in this, their most famous video and song). He scares me more than I can express and I can't explain why. And he's a cool pal and just as gorgeous in person 20 years after this video. He is a Vampire and I adore him. Oh, and

And this is Barry's son with his band The Veils. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. No no no it doesn't. I know I posted this not very long ago, but it's too good not to post again. Besides, like I said above, it's my blog and I'll post if I want to.
Hey! Another J-fic song! If memory serves, this is one of the first songs J hears on the iPod that would eventually be his. I think the tune fits him well.
While we're at it, let's have another happy Prodigy song. That Keith Flint...he's a riot, he is!
Now's the time I offer up some sweet goddamn pretty motherfucking country acid house music (the band's description of their music, not mine, but I agree with them). This is what happens when a Welshman and a Scotsman discover their mutual love for American Country music and the Blues, and decide to form the First Presbyterian Church of Elvis the Divine.
If you're wondering who the hell those people were, maybe this will enlighten you. I came to the Alabama 3 by way of dozens of letters written to me asking if Barry Andrews had anything to do with The Sopranos' theme song. Since I didn't have HBO, I had no idea what they were talking about, so I went hunting. My first exposure to them was the song above, "Hypo Full of Love," which hooked me like whoa. But this song is good too.
My favourite Peter Murphy song. Shame there's no real video for it. But this is good 'cos it shows how beautiful he is. Why can't men get a clue and start wearing make-up?
Another J-fic song, from "The Dentist's Date." Up until now, I'd never seen this video, so I was fairly flipped out by some of the imagery. Ha! As for VAST, why Jon Crosby hasn't gotten more recognition for his brilliance is beyond me.
More VAST. My favourite by Jon and another J-fic tune. Just some trivia here, given the spider imagery in this clip: Jon was musically inspired by Robert Smith at an early age. You can kinda of hear the influence in some of his vocals. Anyway, for all you fell J fans out there, try applying this song to the scene of J after his explosive jail break. It's pretty cool.
Okay, one more VAST song. My second favourite by Jon. Not a proper video, but that's okay. Just listen.
Groovy Siouxsie. Nothing more need be said.
I don't understand one damned word he's saying, but I love it. He could be singing "You smell like llama butt and your mama dresses you funny" and I'd just be grinning and shaking my heinie in my blissful ignorance. If this song sounds familiar, you may remember it from The Fifth Element. Snappy!
The admin hopes you enjoyed this LJ intermission in all its wonderfulmousness. Thank you and come again.
