This is one of those things that makes me wish I had an actually large f-list:
http://consumerist.com/2010/12/whats-the-worst-gift-youve-ever-received.html Because, aside from the traumatically neglectful stuff (a push up bra to ten year old?!?) I love reading about the insane and misplaced generosity of others.
My weirdest gift was a very good pair of girl's snowboots, in a lovely purple snowflake pattern. They would have been awesome, if I hadn't been (a) a 5' 9" adolescent at the time and (b) perhaps even more obviously relevant, a lifelong resident of Central Texas. I mean, I've SEEN snow. I've never needed boots about it.
But what really put this over the top for the crazy was that this was from my mom's parents, who ALSO lived in Texas most of their lives. 50-60 years at that point. And they still urged me to try the boots on, and talked excitedly about all the fun we would all have, skiing and building snowmen and such.
Haha! Yeah! And then we'll all eat our lovely plastic food and go mow the carpet!
So tell me, small extant f-list, how crazy was your craziest present?
