Today is a month away from winter solstice. Uh, I think. I can never remember if it's December 21st or 22nd, but no matter. In about a month it will start to get lighter again!
Gotta say though I kind of like the darkness. Okay, that sounded quasi-evil, but it is actually quite cosy at times. I know a lot of people suffer from fall depression because of the increasing darkness, but for me it's always been kind of nice. At least once the snow has fallen and it's not entirely pitch-black. But there is something special about all the lights (Christmas lights are starting to appear now, which is even more special), and while it can be a bit annoying that it's pitch-black when you leave for work in the morning and when you head home in the afternoon, it is only for a few months. At this time, the lights have to be turned on at around 2 in the afternoon, as it's getting dark by then. Personally I sleep much better during winter; I've always had a hard time sleeping when the sun is up all night long. So I'll go on and enjoy the winter nights for another month, and then just when I start getting sick of it all sometime in March or April, the evenings just keep getting brighter. I love living where the seasons are so different!
