Let me document that encounter with the old man with photos!
copy paste from a post i made!
In all the years I've been exploring, I had never met a single person at any of my locations. I've always had the fear lurking in the back of my mind that I'd meet a hobo or some squatters, but the fear usually subsided once I got into the place and started walking around. However, the uneasy feeling did not subside upon pulling up to this place. We sat in my car for a good 10 minutes or so before even deciding to get out.
We were greeted by a pile of cigarette butts and a pile of banana peels. My first remark was, "Hey! Isn't that a fresh banana peel there?!" but curiosity forced us to continue on. Walking around the side of the house there were vines growing into the windows...and a wide open front door around front. We knocked, called out, no answer. Walked in. Animal poop everywhere. Holes in the ceilings. Layers of dead bugs and cobwebs. CLEARLY no one could live here. We were first drawn upstairs, instead of into another door directly in front of us. There was a room that simply had poop in it. Another with a pair of ancient skates hanging from the wall. Another with a trunk of photographs. Then the bathroom.
This is where it gets creepy. Despite the layers of grunge that you find in every abandonment, the bathroom looked in alright shape compared to the rest of the house. And a roll of toilet paper on the sink...in half decent condition. Open the door, and there it was. The only room in the house with furniture. Mind you, everything was coated in layers of dust, even the clothing and shoes laying beside the bed (which was made). We heard a cough. Froze. Waited. Nothing. Eventually, the footsteps began. It was like being in a horror movie. Somehow, our legs began to propel us towards the front door, down the steps, around the corner.....
and there he was. Drooling and hunched over from the 60 or 70 years of life he's lived. Spewing nonsensical angry sounding words. I hid behind my boyfriend as he talked our way out of the situation...there are no real words to describe the way this old man was. It was like he was picked out of a horror film. Imagine a farmer from one of those movies, only we lived and managed to get out of the situation. Got in my car as fast as possible and took off. Laughing hysterically after the fear had worn off at the absurdity of the situation we found ourselves in...trying to figure out if he lived there and was hanging out in the part of the house we didn't check out...
1. The pile of cigarettes and banana peels

3. The vines
4. Stairway inside the front door
5. See what I mean when I say clearly abandoned? This was the state of the house
6. This is a quick photo of the bed in the room where it all started...unfortunately I wasn't able to get any more photos of that room than this. There was just something horribly uneasy about that room.
COMMENT. THIS TOOK EFFORT.
